Myth: Runningbacks from the University of Alabama are products of the Alabama oline and aren't that talented. They shouldn't be drafted high because they'll be a bust.

Let's do a few experiments with our test subjects...
Subject one-
Mark Ingram-
As you can see those are very good numbers. Over 4 yards a carry while sharing carries in a pass heavy offense. He's developed into a 3 down back, great blitz pickup, and has grown as a pass receiver this year. Made one pro bowl so far. Wouldn't call him a bust or overrated at all. A very good back. I'd like to see someone tell me differently.

Subject 2-
Eddie Lacy

Again another back with very good numbers in a pass 1st offense
Back to back years of 1100+ yards, good average per carry, good out of the backfield. Has a pro bowl , 2ND team all pro and OROY in his short career. Another very productive back.

Subject 3-
TJ Yeldon

Only a rookie so he still has a way to go but he's already pretty productive.

Now on to our last subject-
Trent Richardson

He's a bust :manny: ain't no denying that.
3/4 being good RBs ain't bad.

So are all Alabama runners soon to be scrubs and bust? No. That Myth has been busted.
So stop the slander and respect them boys:ufdup:

It's a myth

The fact is most good college players are "busts". There are only a handful of great (or even very good) players in the NFL, but there are lots of players coming out that we see potential greatness is. Hell, a lot of the NFL's greatest players don't even come from big schools and sometimes aren't even expected to be great, so the hit rate for great college players is even lower.

No matter what school, there are plenty of guys that don't make it at the next level. It's just the nature of the beast that is pro sports. You either have the genetics and the drive to make it or you don't and no school can just give you that.

I think people call them busts because they didnt come in the league and set it on fire immediately. Lacy has been the best of the bunch and he was considered the worst of the recent crop of running backs that Alabama has produced. But overall they have been solid just not stars like many have expected them to become.

Pro Bowler (Eddie needs to focus these next 2 years, tho)
ingram been a damn good back for years
Yeldon will flourish in JAX, top 10 pass game and the line will improve

Glen Coffee had the goods to make it, just wasnt in his heart

Nick Saban doesn't recruit players that aren't talented. Mark Ingram has been very underwhelming imo.

He was on a committee his first few years and was flourishing this year as the hnic. His versatility reminds me of Brian Westbrook.

If Lacy takes like his draft-mate Le'Veon Bell and drops some weight to become more nimble, he might be unstoppable. But he's just fat now
