Its gonna be sad in like 5-10 years time when record stores are legit off the face of the earth and they dont even stock CDs like that and labels actually really really limit themselves, thus creating a situation where all you can do is 100k...and cats will still be posting like its 1998 and expected more.

Selling less than you're supposed to, less than the conditions the label, management, the type of you music you make in order to set you up to move a certain amount.


Cheif Keef moving 50k is not a flop, Jay-z moving 100k is a flop.
Big Krit moving 150k would a monster success, Wayne moving 150k is a flop etc.


Back in the days it was a flop if anyone on a major label with a budget didn't go gold. And it wasn't a commercial success unless you went platinum.
Now those #s are kind adjusted, I think Gold is the new bar for commercial success.

It shouldnt suprised anyone for a rapper to sell less then 100k. yeah jay z is a mega star...but its still 2012

so I mean, you are sort of right, that I would expect him to sell more and BEAT the odds, because of his cult following, but at the same time it wouldnt surprise me, and I expect all mega rap stars to drop off the sales map at some point so I still wouldnt really call it a flop, because I expect it.

You also have to think about the money invested into artist. That's why people were saying MMG flopped.

If there isn't a lot of money backing an artist and they perform bad, sales wise, is that a flop... No. But if an artist is a focal point for a label and perform bad, then insert flop, occurs.

And no you don't have to see the actual documents and contracts to know how much money was behind them. Any educated person can use common sense and noticed the products with a huge budget behind them.
