I honestly don't think most women under 5'8 can gauge height too well to begin with. 
I actually believe how you posture up and carry yourself makes more an impact in how your height will be perceived. I'm 5'8 and hovering near 200 lbs right now (lean, solid muscle). Most of the women I talk to guess my height wrong or just assume I'm taller b/c a guy with my posture/shape is just physically imposing from a small woman's vantage point.
Now if you're 5'8 or under and you're scrawny...then you're losing. There seems to be a little more leeway in being shaped like a bytch when you've got some height to make up for it.
