I do think a lot of it is PTSD and Stockholm Syndrome that we---and this is true of all Americans, but the black American experience is particularly this---we accept crumbs to survive.

And that’s precisely what some people on the left want. You could save that for when he doesn’t come down heavy handed with reforms and another incident causes chaos AFTER HE HAS BEEN IN OFFICE. But of course, feelings were hurt, so they want to shoot themselves in the foot instead of saying “Okay, Joe. We hear you. You haven’t pushed for the single removal of a statue or haven’t said what you are to do to fight white supremacists either. Enjoy negotiating with McConnell” and leaving.
People have already forgot how on edge this past summer was, so of course they’ve forgotten Trump’s previous scandals and only think about the newest ones.
Sidenote: That’s not to say I agree with the pick. If the American people, regardless of race, political leaning, or geographical location despise this guy, why would you think about even considering him, let alone without laying out exactly what you’re going to do to address their concerns. This is the type of stuff that loses you mid-terms, not “defund the police”.

Some of the progressive candidates are unelectable. Some of the new and interesting ideas might be implemented years/decades from now, but are a hard sell for a person who is running for president.
