Sideshows & Gun Shots Had East Oakland On FIRE This Weekend!
By @_gbiznessNov 22, 2021

The streets of Oakland were raging this weekend! There was a huge sideshow in the east & gun fire didn't even stop the activity. Be careful Bay Area.

"
OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) – Shootings, robberies, and illegal sideshow activity has kept the Oakland police officers very busy this weekend.

The Oakland Police Department says the chief will be holding a media conference Monday to address the dangerous weekend.

One of the city leaders KRON4 spoke to says that this is the worst he has seen the city in his 75 years of being a part of it.

They say more action has to be taken to stop these crimes but it’s difficult with the police department being understaffed.

“No one has ever seen the city in the shape it is today,” Bishop Bob Jackson said.

Another crime-filled weekend in the city of Oakland. The police department says there were shootings, robberies, looting, and illegal sideshow activity.

Citizen video shows one of those sideshows. In the video, you can also see crowds of people watching and supporting the activity.

Oakland City Councilmember and Mayoral candidate Loren Taylor say although these people aren’t committing a crime–they are encouraging this type of activity.

“Just by being there and providing likes and support for these activities, it’s encouraging it to continue and unfortunately that puts Oakland residence in harm’s way,” Taylor said.

Oakland police shoot, kill carjacking suspect who fired at officers
Saturday afternoon, a carjacking resulted in an officer shooting the suspect — That suspect died from their injuries.

There was also an armed robbery and shooting on Pendleton Way overnight. One person was arrested and the 123rd homicide.

“My understanding is we did have a younger person involved in the homicide,” Taylor said.

Taylor says with all of this criminal activity, officers are spread thin and it’s difficult to solve any of the crimes.

“I have called for increased resources for our investigations unit so we can bring these folks to justice,” Taylor said.

Pedestrian hit, killed on I-880 in Oakland
Bishop Bob Jackson with Acts Full Gospel Church says the city needs more help from California Highway Patrol and the Alameda Sheriff’s Department because the police department can’t handle this level of crime on their own.

“It’s down to 680 officers I understand. In the next two months, it will be down to 650. We need a minimum of 850 to really protect the people of Oakland,” Bishop Jackson said.

Bishop Jackson says when he talks to members of the community they’re scared and tired of the crime. He says something needs to change, or things will get worse.

“The only thing I’m concerned about is the citizens of Oakland may pick up guns and start protecting themselves and then it’s going to be awful,” Bishop Jackson said.

OAKLAND, Calif. - The mother of a 29-year-old woman shot and killed near the Bay Bridge toll plaza told KTVU on Friday that her daughter was riding in an SUV with her fiance and two children and they were on their way to a job interview when the bullets started flying.

Alicia Butler said it was her daughter, Amani Morris, who was found dead, slumped in a burgundy SUV on I-80 Thursday morning.

A law enforcement official told KTVU that the freeway shooting appeared to be deliberate and that someone fired multiple times directly into the vehicle as it was traveling. No motive or suspect description was given.

The coroner said the bullet that killed her daughter went through her phone and then into her head. She died instantly.

Morris' fiance and sons, ages 3 and 5, were not injured.

"They were her world," Butler said. "There was nothing she wouldn't do for those boys."

In an emotional interview from Georgia, Butler said that she has no reason to believe her daughter would be a target, adding that she was a creative and loving mother.

She said her daughter was on the way to a final job interview at a child care center at the time.

"She was telling me the day before, ‘Mommy, she told me it was all but mine," Butler recalled her daughter telling her about the position. "I just had to talk to her boss. So tomorrow is going to clinch it.'"

Butler continued: "So, 20 minutes before this happened she had called me, we were FaceTiming, she and my grandkids and my husband. We were all on the phone talking and laughing and she said, ‘I’ll call you when it’s over.' Except for that was the last time I talked to her."

To whoever did this, Butler said: "I pray God that you just find it in your heart to turn yourself in. Because this could’ve been your mom, your sister, your daughter. You took something from me that I could never replace. You took my baby. Just turn yourself in please."

This is the second deadly freeway shooting in Oakland in less than two weeks and the third in less than four weeks.

On Nov. 6, 23-month-old Jasper Wu was shot and killed on I-880. His funeral is on Friday.

Then the week before, rapper Monnie Price was shot and killed on I-580 on Oct. 27.

In all, the California Highway Patrol said there have been nearly 80 freeway shootings in Alameda County in the last 12 months, mostly along I-880 and I-580 – that’s about six shootings a month.

Butler is devastated that her daughter was one of those victims.

Her daughter also created a brand of lip gloss, trademarking it "Big Lip Baddies," which she had been getting ready to launch.

"She was just a bright light," she said. "She’d come into a room and light any room up with her smile."

Butler said she plans to head to California on Friday to bury her daughter.

With all this tragedy, she's thankful she still has her grandsons.

"I’m grateful that they didn’t get hit and I’m grateful that she didn’t suffer," Butler said. "Those are the only two things that I have right now to hold on to."

Her family has set up a GoFundMe to help with expenses.

The Price family has had their share of tragedy.

Ramon Price's other son, 17-year-old Lamont Price, was killed in 2012, and his grandson, Na’vaun Lamarii Price Jackson, 4, accidentally shot himself with a gun in the house two years ago.

Monnie Price Jr.'s Facebook page shows a picture of him and his late brother with the words "Team Lamont" across the banner.

Hundreds of people expressed their condolences to the elder Price on social media regarding Monnie Jr.

As of Thursday, Alameda County Coroner's Office would not formally identify who died, citing a "press hold."

Aerial photographs show the car is a white, four-door Chevrolet sedan.

CHP officers said they located rifle casings at the westbound 98th Avenue off-ramp.

In Thursday's update, the CHP said the victim continued driving after being shot to the MacArthur Boulevard off-ramp where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police have not yet explained whether they believe this was a targeted shooting.

The freeway was snarled with traffic for at least three hours after the incident began.
