A lot of the players on the Cowboys had nicknames, it was usually given to them by teammates and meant to be a joke at their expense. James Washington grew up in Watts and his teammates called him “Drive By”

Bill’s nickname was “Master” and Tom Landry said “they must really respect him a lot to give him that nickname”.

Landry didn’t realize that they gave it to him because of his last name.
