First you introduce Richie steamboat as a WWE referee. In a title match between miz and aj styles at night of champions (or whatver Dec. Ppv), styles (babyface) has miz in the calf crusher....maryse is pleading with miz to not submit, but its too much, he SAYS he submits (doesn't tap). He loses the match.
Maryse immediately looks like she loses all respect for him, and miz says IT WAS THE REF!!! And stares daggers thru steamboat.
On smack down he has an episode of miz TV, and he calls out the ref. He runs him down like crazy, and challenges him to a match. He mentions how he used to be in nxt, and calls him a coward. Steamboat wants to fight him, but he can't....he's injured and can't fight....miz beats the shyt out of him...i mean chairs...the bell...ring post figure four...
Eventually RICKY steamboat runs out and tries to stop it...miz starts to back off out of respect (its Ricky steamboat). As ricky helps his son to the back miz hits Ricky with a chair and beats him too. Daniel Bryan is disgusted with this, and suspends miz indefinitely. Maryse is pleased with miz' aggression.
In the following weeks they show steamboat talking to daniel Bryan...saying he wants a shot at the miz to defend his and his sons honor. Daniel gets the fire in his heart, but isn't comfortable with steamboat competing at his age. He doesn't let it go and says he'll find a way to get back at miz.
At the same time, miz is begging for reinstatement...eventually he is granted entrance into mania...
Miz is at rumble and it really looks like he's gonna win. RICKY STEAMBOAT comes out, and cleans house, and it leaves miz and steamboat in the ring for a brief one on one until the next person comes out. Miz is ELIMINATED from rumble, and he loses his best chance to get the title.
