Every Jamaican restaurant got a cook in the back named Errol
leopold's reign was from 1865 to 1903. it's a germanic name that wasn't around for centuries in any black country prior to him. and i won't dispute what you said about haitians and americans being named after racist people, it's bad for them too when the name itself isn't that common, but if it's a common name that you don't reflexively associate with one single person then I don't see the big deal. robert isn't automatically associated with robert e lee. but if you name your kid adolph today you're really just trying to troll and you won't find a jew named adolph born after WWII. so why are there still black leopolds after the 1890's? all these jamaicans or any other black leopolds you hear about got those names in the 20th century by parents who thought it was a nice unique name oblivious to this butcher's history.Understood but we have to be careful how we attach a name to one person who did some foul shyt. We can't just crucify everyone who chooses to name their kid Adolf because of Hitler. These names been around for centuries before until one infamous person with that name left a scar.
I grew up with a kid in Haiti named Adolf and apparently that name goes way back in his family. His parents didn't give a fuxk and still named him Adolf and we used to tease him about it but his pops (also named Adolf) didn't give a fukk.
Heck I know a French guy named Adolf. Despite all Charles Leclerc's and Napoleon's atrocities in Haiti know many Haitians named Charles and Napoleon. Find me a US president that was a known racist and I'll find you African Americans with the same first name.
You mean to tell me there will be no Donalds among black americans starting 2016?![]()
You have a point in them being oblivious. But think about it the culprits names may not have been as well known.leopold's reign was from 1865 to 1903. it's a germanic name that wasn't around for centuries in any black country prior to him. and i won't dispute what you said about haitians and americans being named after racist people, it's bad for them too when the name itself isn't that common, but if it's a common name that you don't reflexively association with one single person then I don't see the big deal. robert isn't automatically associated with robert e lee. but if you name your kid adolph today you're really just trying to troll and you won't find a jew named adolph born after WWII. so why are there still black leopolds after the 1890's? all these jamaicans or any other black leopolds you hear about got those names in the 20th century by parents who thought it was a nice unique name oblivious to this butcher's history.
charles is just too common where leclerc isn't even the first french one you think of, i'd say de gaulle. when you go out of your way to name your kids unique names that some european ruler had, you should at least no some history about it.
and donald trump doesn't rise to the level of leopold or adolph at this point in time and the name is quite common.
