Because white folks in a HBCU band ain't a new phenomenon. Do you nikkas go outside your bubbles? I agree when some white person does some basic shyt and nikkas be ready to invite them to the stupid ass picnic. But this, I haven't seen this shyt hyped or praised anywhere. Anyone making this a thing just want something to be militant and mad about.

say that then

he was speaking on the tweet

why are black people so impressed by non-black people doing black people things
All BS aside there's a ton of dancers out here of damn near every race that can move and do any type of dance there is out there. Aren't the Jabbawokeez predominately Asian?

Everyone in every HBCU band earns their place..

Only fake militants online cares about shyt like this.

Vanilla Funk made DM at Alabama St. I just KNEW he was going to go to JSU based on his marching style.
Anyway, people were mad once again not realizing what you go through not only to be in a HCBU band, but in a SWAC band as well. No disrespect to my MEAC, CIAA folks...

Many non-HBCU band members are outraged, claiming that White drum majors are problematic.

Tamorah Shareef Muhammad, a self-proclaimed “Student & Follower of the H.E.M under the leadership of Minister Louis Farrakhan” and “Traditional Wife and Mother” related Strickland’s performance to race. She posted the video (without credit to the original poster) and said “We can never have nothing nothing just nothing!!”

Presumably, Muhammad was referring to the fact that a caucasian man was leading an HBCU band. She implied that Strickland’s role as a drum major was robbing black people of their culture.

Strickland is not the only non-black drum major at an HBCU. Justin Heideman, known to many as ‘Vanilla Funk,’ is a drum major at Alabama State.

This why I don’t talk bad about SWAC bands..I know what it takes & what you have to go through.

My band camps at Bama State weren’t too different from my Marine boot camp..shyt growing up with a black mom who didn’t play that shyt & them band camps from ASU made boot camp a breeze for me.
