He was telling the truth about Madara, he was just lying about being Madara himself. Most likely Madara was his master and he just assumed Madara's identity after he died.

As as far as the 4th not recognizing him...well, he did have a mask on.

Everything makes perfect sense as far as continuity goes. We have no idea how much time passed between the time Obito died and the 4th fought Tobi. We just assume they were close to each other.

Everything makes perfect sense as far as continuity goes. We have no idea how much time passed between the time Obito died and the 4th fought Tobi. We just assume they were close to each other.

Actually one year passed according to the manga. Kakashi became a jounin at 13 thus making Obito 13 when he died as well. In part one Kakashi was 26, thus making him 14 when the Kyuubi attacked (Naruto is 12 in part 1). Therefore it was one year after Obito died. No assumptions here
