Nasir was ok but definitely not up to what it should have been.

My anticipation was high because Nas and Kanye sounds like a good match, plus Pusha’s joint Daytona was dope as fukk.

But the production on Nasir was lacking and the tempo was too slow over too many songs. Nas is good for a slow joint here and there but damn near 5 out of 7 is too much

I always wondered if they only recorded those 7 songs, or were those the 7 that made it?

Nasir was Kanye trying to make a solo album with Nas rapping all the verses. It has all the hallmarks of a Kanye album (way too many features, production that's terribly mastered and sounds like it's drowning out the vocalist, etc.), so of course it sounds terrible since there is no focus on Nas. I don't think some of Nas' more critical "fans" understood how much he was working to carry those solo albums until they heard him on that overproduced and rushed mess.

It's really just a problem with art-style though. Kanye has been used to people praising him for throwing random shyt at the wall and throwing it all in the mix. It doesn't work that way with Nas, who is held to a much higher standard, regardless of what his critics/detractors say.

I fukks with Nasir but we can all agree that the talent of a pre-MAGA Kanye and Nas is supposed to be an instant classic not a 4 mic album. Kanye dropped the ball something SERIOUS but if you ask him he gave Nas the best beats of the Wyoming sessions lol. The man is truly and irrevocably insane.

Lost Tapes 2 is dope. That album has some great cuts on it and people were bytching about Nas not working with Pete Rock and we got not one but TWO Pete Rock joints and people slept on it. LT2 was proof that the “stuck in the 90’s” nikkas just want something to complain about because that album should’ve been a purist’s dream project. Nas rocking over RZA, Pete Rock, Alchemist, and No I.D. Production? shyt should've went triple if you let the Golden Era OG’s tell it.

I’m glad Nas decided to go with a more modern sound and more relevant producer with Hit Boy. That sole decision was a stroke of musical genius because they’ve gotten better and better with each release. To follow up the excellent Kings Disease with KD2, which BLOWS KD1 out of the water was an incredible feat, and then to out of NOWHERE drop Magic!?!? Not even I thought Nas would be in a creative space to ever again drop TWO projects in the same year, and of the quality of KD2 and Magic?!?! Nas was hands DOWN the MC of the year in 2021 and Hit-Boy deserves all the respect and props in the world for crafting beats that put Nas in THAT zone. And THEN to go above and beyond and drop KD3?!?! With NO features!?! The most acclaimed rap album in 2022!?! Recorded WHILE Nas was on tour all that year?!!

Incredible.

Nas at 50 outrapping 90% of the underground AND mainstream was probably on nobody’s but us core stan’s bingo cards in 2019. But the man has been on an absolute tear and the crazy thing is there’s NO signs he’s slowing down! The sold out MSG show, the soundtrack run plus a worldwide tour running it back with Wu-Tang plus the 50th anniversary festivities are keeping Nas visible and at the forefront of the genre at a time where it seems most of rap’s A-list are cooling their heels waiting for the end of summer. If Nas drops KD4 sometime this year (and there’s no reason to think he won’t) and he and Hit manage to outdo KD3 there’s really no argument who the GOAT is (really there was no argument after KD1 in if we’re keeping it funky)

This has been such a great era for Nas. It really does feel like he's in his second prime right now.

Kanye had him trapped in the back of cars writing rhymes to beats that didn't even make the album. Treating him like some kidnapping victim. :scust:

I still think Lost Tapes II was a dope project, but it looks like everybody else disagreed. Some of those songs would be standouts on an actual album.

King's Disease shut everything down and was one of the best things about 2020. That album ended up being the start of a run that destroyed narratives, restored faith, and proved that you don't have to lose your edge as an older rapper. Plus, a guy who didn't exactly have the best track record with Nas created the backdrop for all of it. We all got to be part of something beautiful over the last couple years. :mjcry:
I actually liked QUITE a few songs on Lost Tapes 2.... It was not the original I know as far as quality but I liked the project and need to break it out again to listen.

I agree I liked every release better... I think my faves are KD3 and Magic and they were the most recent releases... KD1 was cool but 2 as you said blows that out of the water. If the next release follows the trend we are in for another classic. Nas reiinvented himself with HIT and they got something going to it would be foolish to stray from that formula and what is working the last few years.

Than Nasir album was offensive in all aspects. We had waited 6 years for him to follow up Life is Good which put him back on the map. They announce the album but if you remember that was the same week that stupid nikka came out talking about supporting Trump. Album comes out and Nas rapping is all the way on point but it’s a 6 track digital weed plate due to dude’s production.

Lost Tapes II bonus material at best

NAS my favorite rapper but because of Nasir, I actually haven’t listened to any of the work with Hit Boy. Legit. Except the track with Eminem and the Death Row track. Oh and whatever the song with Bron and Russ in the video is - shyt was stale and boring like Nasir.

I’m losing, I gotta make some time for it. Nasir just fukked it up for me. Same with Kendrick, because of Damn, I haven’t listened to any of the new album. Don’t even know what it’s called.
