I'm not getting my POV from nas though...i'm going off of my personal experience and conversations that I've had. One of the illest convos of my life was with two Kenyan exchange students and it's really something i won't ever forget. I talk about it all the time even years after the fact.
He said some Africans. And you go on later here to touch on the image/perception of the american black...i'm not saying it's true, i'm just saying that YOUR perception is reality. I understand why some Africans may perceive american blacks in that way if all they really have is the media to go off of. The problem is, even the truthful shyt that make american blacks look a certain way are really symptoms, not the cause. You need to have proper perspective on the psychological aspect of being black in america before you can really make a good judgment.
Right, this is why i brought up the "they sold us into slavery" talking point because again, it's a perception that really lacks perspective on what slavery was. Doesn't stop the hurt or the mixed signals.
Being that there isn't much open dialogue between Africans and american blacks you end up with both sides running with a particular image. You got nikkas in the states africa is a bunch of tribal nikkas in cloth tutu's and lions walking around willy nilly...it's a lot of miscommunication, doesn't mean he pulled it out of thin air.
I agree he could have fleshed it out a bit more or even made it a whole song within the album.
So, We really have the same perspective on this.
One thing I want to say though...when it comes to the "hurt" Black people have from the fact that some Africans were 'sold' into slavery...in all honesty, I don't believe people when they say this. For the simple fact that Black people here in America has bent over backwards trying to 'get along' and be liked by white people. (no matter how tough and hood nikkas act they still want to be next to white people)
So the thing I don't understand is...
Why don't African Americans want to resolve the "hurt" they have over Africans who possibly sold them into slavery but have absolutely NO PROBLEM trying to resolve the "hurt" they have with the WHITE PEOPLE who ACTUALLY ENSLAVED YOU?
If you were an orphan and you were sent to a foster home where your foster parents abused you, mistreated you and hated you...and still til this day has shown they don't care about you...
Who would you try to find peace with first, your biological parents or your foster parents?
