I told someone last week, that this is a Top 3 Nas album in the past 29 years (OG I Am aside).

When dudes hear it, they'll see why.

Still want a tracklist for OG I Am. But I think this album is going to bring me back to the feeling of hearing I Am for the first time

Neg pending if you're wrong

Being top 3 wouldn't be too tall of a task for me. It's Illmatic, IWW, Lost Tapes (not an album but still) and I don't really care to rank the others. There's a lot of uneven work to sift through and I'm not a fan of that producer so Premier at 80% can leap frog to the 3 or 4 spot:obama:

I don't know what it is but that seems to be the norm with most independent rappers today. You hear the album and there's other songs that could've been used as a single to create more excitement. Gibbs and Al did that for Alfredo 2. Roc Marci does that a lot. Conway just did it. Etc...

I haven't even played the snippet that's just a general observation.

Because they’re not chasing hits or charts. They’re choosing singles indicative of who they are as ARTISTS.

Nas has been doing this since Streets Disciple. You Know My Style & Virgo were obvious singles but Nas went with Bridging The Gap (A song I love) and Just A Moment (another song I love)

Hip Hop Is Dead- the obvious singles were Black Republican, Let There Be Light, and maybe Play on Playa and Hustlers. Nas went with the title track and Can’t Forget About You

Untitled- first single was Be A ****** Too, which ended up not making the album. Second single WAS the obvious choice, Hero.

Life is Good- Obvious singles were You Wouldn’t Understand and Summer on Smash. Nas went with Nasty, Daughters, and Da Don. The final single, Cherry Wine, was a great choice between commercial and artistic

Lost Tapes 2- Obvious singles would have been Lost Freestyle and You Mean The World. Nas went with Jarreau of Rap (Skat Attack) and No Bad Energy.

And so on and so forth.

Nah, it's not about chasing hits as indie artists aren't getting those anyway and the albums don't even contain those kinds of songs. They're just picking songs they might like but strategically they're not the best songs to lead into an album.

In the case of Alfredo 2 they did have a song that fit as a traditional single in Ensalada but strangely didn't use it to launch the album.

My statement wasn't even in reference to Nas specifically because this album doesn't even have a single.

I agree with there being a lot of uneven work to sift through. I've been saying that for years, lol.

The Lost Tapes, I still don’t really count as an "album" because that was a bunch of classic loosies that didn't make other actual albums. That's a compilation. And Magic was dope too.

But we spoke about this again when we heard the album, and we were really like, "It's Illmatic, IWW, and this joint". For the undeniable projects. We were that hype. I think this is an album that nobody can honestly front on.
