Listening again while eating lunch and I think I only dislike a few beats outright with the rest being decent to great
- Welcome to the Underground just ain't it. It's missing something, Large Professor does this classic rock sound much better
- Pause Tapes is simple but gets a pass because how dope the record is and the concept. Possibly my favorite Nas track in a while, but the beat alone is weak but maybe that's the concept. Funny how that works out...
- Bouquet also gets a pass because this is a dope tribute and the sample is nice. Supa Dave West flipped it better for He Comes (De La & Ghost) though

And that's really it in terms of my qualms with the beats. The rest is solid. Nothing is seeing their records from 94-99, nothing on here is on that level, but that's fine to me
I'm not sure what his setup is these days, but the beats lack the dirt of yesteryear. Everything feels polished and the drums aren't snappy like they used to be. But that's just age to me. The essence is still there. I like these beats and it feels true to DJ Premier's sound without feeling like he's chasing anything
I wanted at least one objective anthem that you can play for anyone (like Nas Is Like) and this project doesn't have that IMO but I'm not disappointed at all. This is a great album
