3000 Stacks stopped rapping due to stuff like, but cats was saying "why stop, just rap your current interest". Now when Nas does it (raps about his current interest), cats have a problem with it :mjlol: . I hope dudes understand why Dre put the mic down now, a breh just cant win.
Lupe made one of my favorite songs ever. Kick Push

I dont give a damn about skateboarding

Nas dont have that flair anymore to make shyt sound dope is the issue

The Hit-Boy comparisons are missing the point. Nas wasn't looking to replicate the style/switches/etc. he did with Hit-Boy. He clearly wanted to go in a different direction. It seems like Premo intentionally let the lyrics breathe or Nas picked those beats for that reason.
How cats aren't grasping this is borderline hilarious

Premier has been washed for a minute. Any of the Hit-Boy projects if better than this.
Listening to these simple, minimal, beats makes me appreciate the soul samples and the beat switches on the Hit-Boy albums that much more.

Magic 1 and 3 and KD2 and KD3 are better than this.

Gonna go rock 'Japanese Soul Bar' and "Im on Fire" right now, that's the vibe I need

First off, Nas is the GOAT. There's no emcee that has maintained the level of quality and success over such a long period of time. His closest living competition is Jay Z, but Jay is essentially semi-retired. Time to crown him, let it be known, and give him his flowers while he's here.

The Hit Boy projects, especially Magic, KD 2, KD 3, and Magic 3 are classics and the diversity of beats, soul samples, beat switches and cohesive themes really set the bar. I hope people really go back and put some respect on HB's name,

Premier is a legend. That said, he has a formula...chop and loop the sample, then 3-4 vocal samples scratched in the chorus to match the name of the song. It can be good, but it can also be very predictable and repetitive.

Off first listen, this is a very solid album. I love the track where it's Nas vs Esco and hopefully that will put an end to the fans who "want the old Esco back" :russ:

There was no way this album was going to live up to the lofty expectations that many had going in. End of the day, Nas and Preem gave us some good music and I'm content with that. :obama:

I'm not gonna get into the Premo/Hit shyt but I will say...the drum programming on this album is superior to every Hit project. Same with the bass. I'm not a fan of most of the beats but the infrastructure is really solid. It's the stuff on top of it that's my issue lol.

Yea, the drums and basslines are great, on that old school late 80's and 90's vibes. But like you said there's nothing on top. No melody. Its more grimey screw-face music but I was looking for more head nodding melodic shyt like Memory Lane and Nas is Like.

Take Memory lane for example. Listen to the drums. Hard!! .....then you got that little main keyboard part. Then the female vocal sample on top of that. Oooh ooh oooohhhhh and then the scratches of "now let me take a trip down Memory lane!!" ......

Its hard hitting, head nodding, and melodic, all at the same time.

I Gave You Power......another example.....it's grimey but also melodic at the same time. Almost haunting and sad feeling. Because you got the somber piano and then the violins on top of it. It almost makes you feel a sense of despair.

Nas is Like----good drums, and then also a beautiful melodic violin sample with like that harp mixed in the background if you listen closely. Beautiful, melodic, head nodding. Shyt makes me feel like Im out in the rolling green hills of Switzerland soaking in the sun or something like that

And thats a good thing

I dont want 7 albums of Jay reflecting on BK and talking about BS
I was taking a light jab/but I get what you're saying. I Just don't agree in regard to Nas, I think all of business stuff he's been on lyrically is interesting/uplifting for the mind.

Agreed. Now that we got the Nas/Premo album......which off first listen I love it (Pause Tapes is probably the only skip for me).....as an old head I would love a Nas/AZ album call it "The Flyest".....produced by Hit-Boy, Alchemist, Primo, Buckwild, etc.

This nikka rappin bout how he making money off plastic recycling :wtf:

He just rappin to rap at this point.

Flow is sharp as ever but he might want to take a hiatus for a little bit, let nikkas miss him.

Second listen, shyt is uninspired.

I'll keep running back "Pause Tapes" though

Welcome to a Nas Thread
These two posts is exactly what it looks like

  • Then listened to De La Soul - Nice
