Nah this brand of rap is exactly for me. I grew up on boom bap, and Premier made some of my favorite beats of all time. For me, his tracks were always the highlights on any album between the early 90's and early 2000's, particularly on Biggie, Nas, and Jay's albums during that era. O.C's "My World" is still in my rotation. Common's "6th Sense", Mos Def's "Mathematics", etc. The list goes on. As far as full projects, I ran Moment of Truth into the ground when it dropped. It didn't leave my Discman for months.

Maybe my expectations were too high although I tried to keep them tempered. Maybe my reaction was too knee-jerk. I'm going to give it more spins and revisit with my thoughts.

Add CNN's Invincible, Jay's D'Evils and So Ghetto, Common 6th Sense, Das Efx Real Hip Hop, KRS Mc's Act Like they Don't Know, Group Home Suspended in Time........

Nothing like that on this album

I gotta stop ever giving an opinion on music based on first listen. Plus no more late night listening sessions for Grandpa

Listening to this the second time when I'm fresh and sober and this is very, very dope.

Preemo, my apologies.
Opposite with me. I loved it last night. I still like it today. But I ran it in the whip and so many of the beats are missing low end in the car. At least my car. And maybe it’s just my speakers. I just don’t get that warmth and fullness that I’m used to in preemo beats.

I actually think I like most the ransom x preemo beats more than these.

But Nas is killing this shyt. It’s still in the upper half of his catalogue

gonna hit the gym and play this and the conway album
Blaming Nas for picking bad beats is a Coli pastime, but this time it feels like Nas might not have had much to choose from.

I'm not gonna ask Nas to do any more producer driven albums anymore, They're cohesive, but now it feels like there are producers who can put Nas in a good pocket without needing to hear an entire project from them. I'm just glad Nas understood the assignment and at least gave us nothing but these producer driven projects to at least prove he's not gonna let Salaam Remi oversee the poor production choices made in the past.

After a couple of listens this is a strong 4 mic album. My expectation level was Magic, it didn't meet it but it's right behind it and KD3. Nas and Premo gave a great Letter to Hip-Hop :salute:

No offense to you but why must we "rank" ....
each album represents a different point in life and a different POV... You can like all equally for different reasons and connections it makes in your life

Right - so it's not just me! Somebody mentioned Ab-Soul's "Gotta Rap" in this thread leading up to the release. That track shows me that he's absolutely still got it when he finds the right samples. I think the skill set is there, but I just don't love the sample selection on this.

I also HATE it when artists do callbacks to classic tracks/albums without at least trying to match those expectations or sounds. Supreme Clientele 2 is a perfect example of that. Just call it something else at that point (I'm looking at you NYSOM3).

Enjoying it more upon further listens, but I don't know how often I'll revisit this project. I probably rocked Magic and KD3 for a month straight when they dropped for reference and loved them immediately. Hopefully my opinion changes as the days progress. I'll be digging back into this to unpack all the concepts/lyrics at the bare minimum.

Preem himself said he picked them word on the street

Which makes sense because it don't feel like they were in the studio together. Plus even if Nas picked them Preem made them lol

Hopefully this has the Untitled effect. I wasn't too crazy about it but as time went on I loved it
