Albums Nas & DJ Premier - Light-Years (Discussion Thread)

I could see Nas sticking with the one producer thing for a little while longer. My hope would be Q-Tip up next but if he wants to try for a younger producer like he did with Hit-Boy, i’m interested in what a Metro Boomin produced Nas album would sound like.

Preemo learned from Snoop and Dre, you hype it up on all these platforms and do a huge roll out on drink champs, you wont win with the public and end up disappointing like Missionary even though i enjoyed Missionary. He and Nas both the type to let the music speak for itself

This is…not a bad point.

But I think Nas has more musical/cultural good will than Snoop does.

But I don’t know why he hasn't done a whole album with Paul yet. He's one of those rare producers from the golden era that literally NEVER fell off. His beats today are still CRAZY! With all the history they have, they should've done that by now.

Why not ? The kid earned his stripes as far as I am concerned. I don't want a full project no more with hit but If he gives him 3 4 beats like this on a multi producer album, we're good to go

At this point in his career, I kinda only want bro working with Top 10 producers that we've been asking him to do projects with forever. I'm not into HB's sh*t. We got Pete, Tip, Premier, ALC, all on deck, and cooking modern day classics. And Large Professor said he's "always ready" to do an album with Nas.

That's the level of production Nas could cook a classic with today. I really feel like an album with any of those 5 dudes would be Top 3-4 in his catalogue.

We got Pete, Tip, Premier, ALC, all on deck, and cooking modern day classics. And Large Professor said he's "always ready" to do an album with Nas.

That's the level of production Nas could cook a classic with today. I really feel like an album with any of those 5 dudes would be Top 3-4 in his catalogue.

Pete needs to get over his petty bullshyt before he works with Nas again. They can definitely make great work, but no. No Pete for now.

Also, the next time you see Nas, could you tell him you thought the Hit-Boy albums were trash? I want to see how he reacts.

Hit Boy single-handedly shut down all the nas bad picking beat allegations, made nas go out of his comfort zone in terms of pure rapping, put two albums in Nas top 5 to me (magic and kd3), got him his first grammy and enhanced nas discography to the point where to me he passed jay z's and kanye's which were considered the best so far for most people. So he's good in my book

I wonder how many people in the industry already had the chance to hear the album

Magic was the only album that HB worked on with Nas, that I actually listen to. I love that album.

I like that Nas was active, but people wanted more from Nas during that run. HB ain't it.

You been low key with it so all I will ask is which you enjoyed more? Magic or the album and was it a landslide or comparable? I enjoyed magic the most out of the series also so I think we both enjoy the same type of nas sound. Let me know!

You may not like Hit-Boy but to suggest he’s not top tier is simple insanity. Bu every metric imaginable he’s a top tier producer and he out-produced, out-rapped, and out-performed Alchemist on the project they just released.

Pete Rock was just trying to sue Nas less than two years ago over some bullshyt Nas had no control over. That team up DEFINITELY ain’t happening.

Nas worked with Alch on Lost Tapes 2 and all of the “Nas needs to work with Alchemist” club went ghost on it. It was a dope song too and only has about 500k listens/views on Youtube while songs like Legit, 40 Side, and The Definition all have over a million. And the funny thing is Lost Tapes 2 had more hype and promotion than any of the Hit-Boy era projects outside of KD1.

Premier is finally happening. I’d love to see a Nas/Q-Tip album happen. As for Large Professor, he seems to go back and forth between supporting Nas and acting as if Nas forever owes him, this despite the fact that when Nas asked him to executive produce Illmatic, he told Nas he couldn’t do it because he had stuff going on with Main Source and told Nas he’d have to do it himself. So when Large had to focus on his own business he (rightfully) did so and Nas went on to focus on his own business, work with other more varied types of producers, and make history. Maybe their dynamic is too weird or tension-filled to knock out an entire project, but there’s definitely a reason why Nas has never even hinted at it the way he’s done with the Premo album all of these years.
