Listen to song 5.

The album has a bit of a slow start but once you hit Madman it's pretty much a perfect album to me :yeshrug:

I like the first two song as well, but sequencing NYSOM3 followed up by WELCOME TO THE UNDERGROUND was a big mistake imo.
Agreed. I can start at Madman and play it all the way to the end with little issues at all. The opening of this album is shaky and I think a lot of people nope'd out without giving it a fair listen

Raising the budget to a ridiculous degree won't make the album that much better man.
I think it would have here.
Yeah agreed. I like Marco Polo production a lot, just seems weird that his sounds would be used at all for this... That might have more to do with the Ian/Brady Watt connection...

Again I think this has to do with DJ Premier business agreements and how he releases music as a solo artist/duo. PRhyme embraced this as the concept, but Premo seems to only make beats from sound packs and live bands when he's releasing music himself like these 3 projects this year

His random placements over the last few years sound like his normal beats...

As for Hit, he's known to do this. Get Light on KD3 was basically a loop from a popular sound pack, there are other examples from that run as well that I can't place at the moment

Thing is, Nas's last 7 albums haven't been crazy with traditional samples.

The 6 before this one were loaded with sh*t from sample packs. This joint actually had more sh*t to clear than anything he's done since 2012. The HB and Premier albums aren't costing Nas any money. Preem listed himself as an artist on this too. It's a joint album, so he's not charging Nas for this, like that. But this is still an indie project.

But people should just enjoy the music and stop trying to think like music executives. This dude had Premier, Pete Rock, Large Professor, and Q-Tip, and we didn't see any fans back in '94 talking about Illmatic's budget, lol. Way too many people worried about "I wonder what he's spending on promotion. There's been no single". Fans gotta learn to just enjoy music again, and leave the business side of the process to the people who are actually in the business.
I see it now. This is why it sounds like Diet Preemo at points. Not for THIS project SMH:snoop:. The "If you made all that crypto money, why not pay" comment feels a bit pocket watchy and unrealistic, but...he has a point. I been saying that for all these rich legends. Cutting corners ALWAYS shows. ALWAYS. The difference is Premier is god and Hit-Boy is just good.
give me the video for Pause Tapes Nasty Esco Nasir now

Had this album opened up with Madman, the discourse around it would be TOTALLY different IMO. Sequencing matters.

I’m mad af cause I already copped and my shyt just shipped out. Not sure if I wanna spend that extra for an actual album art. Lol

I always knew they’d sell the physicals with album art. My day 1 vinyl edition is for collector’s purposes. I don’t intend to open it.

Going to get the regular vinyl plus variant comic cover edition.
