Yeah album is fire. It’s crazy people act like Alfredo 2 is some classic shyt when Freddy gives you standard slightly above average gangster rap and then turn around and nitpick everything Nas does even though conceptually and lyrically he’s operating at a way higher level. Now you could argue that Alchemist laced Freddy with better beats than Preme did on here but even if that’s true (I’d have to relisten to Alfredo 2) it’s still not enough to warrant the p*ssy ass level of nitpicking I’ve seen about this album.

100%. Same with that Larry June/2Chainz album.

I see industry dudes having that album among the best of the year and just constant praise for it (whatever floats your boat, I guess). However, that album is the epitome of Mediocre bars, sleepy flows/delivery over solid production. Nothing more.

Exactly. I haven’t heard the Larry June jawn but I actually really liked Alfredo 2 but still it’s impossible not to notice how much praise it got in comparison to something like this where Nas is operating at a way higher level imo.

I don't hate it actually. It's just that compared to the first two, this was my least favorite. I respect what Preme was trying to do with this but for me, it didn't hit. I listened to it multiple times to see maybe if this would grow on me but unfortunately it hasn't. Not a horrible or bad song, I just didn't feel much from it production wise.
Crazy people hate NY State of Mind Part 3 its one of my favorite songs on the album and in my top 3 most played

Love that Billy Joel sample and also love that Nas & Preme did something different with the beat. Part 2 is probably the BEST you could get re-interpolating that production.

Part 3 just seems lazy. There's nothing really wrong with it, but it just seems safe compared to the beats on the first 2.

I said this before but a lot of modern fans of the underground street oriented lane that's influenced by the 90s care about vibes way more than bars. Give em an album full of instrumentals that sound like Camay tributes with the drums and bass removed and it's getting called a classic, the rap performance don't even matter :manny: a lot of that crowd was not gonna fukk with this. But I get it, this was aimed at a very specific segment of fans and made no attempt to appeal outside that. Minimalist beats centered on drums and basslines ain't connecting with a wide audience in 2025.

Larry is literally vibe music u don’t get into him for bars. Not everything is meant for the same purpose. But Larry executed what he set out to do very well. No need to knock him.

I didn't Knock him. I described it as it is.

Mediocre bars, sleepy flow/delivery. Now, if people enjoy that and give it a pass under the guise of "vibe"... more power to them.

If I solely wanted vibes, I'll listen to the instrumentals.

This is and a lot of other things I've read in this thread are cope.

When you talk about the underground it's people like Conway, Benny, Rome, Ransom, Mach, etc. Most of them are lyrical and far from being vibe rappers. Most of their songs have drums.

Freddie's subject matter can be repetitive and maybe he's more flow focused but he can rap.

Larry is mainly a vibe artist but I don't think there's a big cross over between his fan base and Nas' to where that's a reason people wouldn't feel Light Years.

Y'all gotta stop fishing for reasons for why people aren't enjoying what you like and creating strawman arguments. I said the album was 4 mics so I'm not someone who disliked it but I 100% can understand why someone wouldn't. If they don't like the beats so be it. It's clearly not Premier's best work but y'all gotta turn it into someone else. Most of the rappers I named all got better, more Premier sounding beats then what Nas chose.
