Dudes here acting perplexed when someone ranks this higher than KD2. Lol

Nas' rap performance here>>>KD2.

I personally feel Nas was on cruise control on several tracks on KD2 which is why I rank it slightly lower, even if the production was better.

Best 9 songs on LY are just as good, if not better, than Magic. Some of you dudes, for some odd reason, can't even see that.

KD3 still reigns supreme among all of them, though.

And yes, he's a better writer than your favorite MC. It's not even debatable.
Nah bro KD2 is way better than this

This is definitely how they wanted the album to sound, as it's paying homage to a certain era

But some of the beats could've definitely been better. Primo lacked some serious creativity here

The truth is somewhere in the middle.

Being able to make dense, complex lyricism palatable for the masses IS a skill, something that Biggie and Jay are probably the GOATs at. Nas' limitations with this has always been pretty exaggerated...but he is Hit Or Miss at it; for every If I Ruled The World he has a Dr. Knockboot, a lot of "Whut da hell is a Polar Bear doin in Arlington, Texas???" moments...dont make me run back the "Nas has weird sex bars" thread :pachaha:

Like somebody brought up You Owe Me but like...that nikka had reparation bars on a hook about Getting Head for ice, that's some "p*ssy tighter than the conditions of us black folks" level of :dahell: and not in a "See hes kicking deep shyt on a commercial record" way but just a total nonsequitir, "Not reading the room" shyt; a conscious rapper caught in unfamiliar territory. A polar bear in Arlington Texas lol

Of course, Nas' strengths are so strong that it makes it a moot point, but it is a leg up that Kendrick has on him.

I can equally bring in weird Big and Jay stuff.

Big with all his tranny references and suspect lines. And what about his sex skits like these weren't corny, talking about shuttin on bytches. You talking about reading the room ? Can we talk about all those cowards subliminals on a dead man that can't defend himself ? He only released two joints so he didn't really has room for mistakes and we all know death takes out a lot of critics for better or worse.
And Jay with all theses mygonist raps and between vol 1 and dynasty and borderline peedo lines ? He can't even play his old music to his daughters by his own admission

They are rappers, they all got contradictions in they raps. Like you say at this height it's kinda irrelevant. They came with so much heat that it don't really matter

Yeah after a while to digest this. This is dope.

Pure distilled hiphop for those of us who would have called ourselves “purists” at some point.

This is the album people begged for every since
the idea of a premo + Nas album first became a thing,

Nobody really making pure NY hiphop no more. This feels comforting for those of us missing that vibe :ahh:
