That's what he usually does so the beat felt unfinished. I thought Premier said he wanted to do something else to it but Nas wanted it as is.

A lot of the joints were made as super rough demo versions, which was buggin' me out, at first. Then as time went on, things were being added and changed. Some songs just didn't work and got cut altogether.

But I told dudes on here that "Define My Name" wasn't making the cut. They said it would be a bonus track, at first. But I think with so many people not feeling it, the need to go back in and refine all the demos and references was needed. I think that's what brought out the best in the project, on the production side. The people have a high ass standard for these brehs. Preem knew he had to get back in and flip some sh*t properly. Like I said on here, you can't f*ck this one up. Stakes are mad mad high.

There's an opportunity here to make the seminal legacy rap album. I think we're clearly in a period where vets are more active with more platforms to get their shyt off. Sooner or later there's gonna be even more, I suspect. Like a "traditional rap" category added to the Grammys, which will focus on funneling awards to our legends the same way traditional pop categories benefit Tony Bennett or Ray Charles.

Also the bar has been set so high by LL/Q-Tip and Common/Pete Rock. If this doesn't hit those heights people are gonna talk about it. And whether it does or doesn't, I suspect it'll convince even more legends to get serious about albums, collabs etc.

Premier mentioned that those albums showed that our vets can still get in and make classic sh*t together.

All of our legends silently still compete. Pete was saying that again recently. They listen to each other's sh*t, and then go create, like back in the day. So he's been waiting for his time with Nas to do the same, and I think this album is gonna have mad impact. This is what we need, for the culture. And I'm not saying that lightly. Nas and Premier back together, but this time, for a whole project during an era where people write off the GOAT's. A lot of the legends have been cooking crazily lately.

This sh*t is a big deal.
