Man, great album. Nas was on another level on this album. He overshadow the production here. That's not a bad thing imo. I fukked with the minimalistic approach that Premo went with.

My favorite moments of the album was the 3 song run from My Time is into the AZ joint.

And the constant odes to the culture throughout the album was beautiful. Good stuff.

Actually edited my post to mention that album while you were typing this lol, that was trash too but I’d honestly run that back instead of listening to this a third time
to each his own Nas actually rapping his ass on here. I actually feel the album is solid but this what I expected from Preemo at this stage. If you haven't fukked with his production the last 5 years this does nothing to change the opinion :manny:

Im not a fan if Dj Premier like that. Nas is my favorite but this shyt is too Ny centric for me.

Get Hit back on the phone.

Bro this is why i love it! This shyt is pure essence pure hip hop.

Idk how this dude Nas just keep rapping like a motherfukker gone wild! This technical performance is stupid.

Gonna get off and listen a thousand more times before i have a solid conclusion though lol

Wow…

:francis:

…and not in a good way.

The track list had me hyped, but reality is not meeting my expectations.

I bought Illmatic on CD the week it dropped. I’ve been a Nas fan since the beginning. H to the Omo Nas… not shawty what’s your price or that wack ass album he dropped with Kanye, Nasir, Nas.

:scust:

The rapping on this sounded uninspired —like he’s bored with rap. This will get no more listens from me. I won’t even talk about the beats.

This will be the most polarizing album in Nas career. A lot of the critiques I don't agree with from what I'm seeing.

bruh Nas is 53…
His most polarizing album will always be I AM

That’s like saying LeBron’s final years with the Lakers are his most polarizing time

What does buying Illmatic have to do with this ?

Off first listen I'm really feeling this album. I came in with no expectations and really enjoyed this project. The only joint I'm not feeling is welcome to the underground. Played NYSOM 3 again and it's growing on me. Nas floated on all these joints.

Illmatic wasn’t a commercial success. It took 7 years to go platinum. So you had to really like and appreciate Nas to even KNOW about his album outside of New York back then. I grew up in New Orleans. No one was checking for Nas down there.

You can get up off the floor now.

:why:

Mad at my opinion?

Welcome to the Underground was the only joint there that I could do without. Define my Name is Better and could.of been kept on the album tbh
