Illmatic wasn’t a commercial success. It took 7 years to go platinum. So you had to really like and appreciate Nas to even KNOW about his album outside of New York back then. I grew up in New Orleans. No one was checking for Nas down there.

You can get up off the floor now.

:why:

Mad at my opinion?

:mjlol:

You sound emotionally hurt.. nikka talkin about being in line buying a Nas album in 1994…

It’s just music fam… log off:dahell:

to each his own Nas actually rapping his ass on here. I actually feel the album is solid but this what I expected from Preemo at this stage. If you haven't fukked with his production the last 5 years this does nothing to change the opinion :manny:
Nas is Nas, of course hes great here, but I really can’t get past the flat production all throughout this

You quoted me. I didn’t know you existed 30 minutes ago. If you took my opinion as emotional…

:manny:

Ok..

:patrice:

Now what?

While you continue to master typing with a dikk down your throat, I’m gonna get my day started.

A few good tracks but overall not feeling Preme production, still has those 90s sound and Nas sound just feel like he just wanted to do anything without that much effort

To quote AZ, “y’all wanted this this what y’all wanted”

There was no way you didn’t know what you were walking into with this album. Not possible.
That’s my thing. These guys are doing what they do on this album… these fact that you got an album like this from them 30 plus years in the game is saying a lot. I’m just going to appreciate what I got from these guys.

That's the problem, this is not 90's sound. This is 2025 beats trying to sound 90ish. I knew Premo for his ego wouldn't dig into his unreleased catalog to give old beats but would craft new beats to prove he still got it. He tried to produce an album rather than give Nas a collection of beats, and I give him credits for that, but considering the anticipation for this project it was a bad call. He needed slappers and they barely came

Will give more thoughts later, but I like the album

Some of the concerns around production are valid, but also overblown

This is the most backpacker 5 elements album Nas has made and that's a good thing

A lot of fan service on the album too

Some of the beats don't do it for me, maybe 3-4 but I mostly like everything else on here

I like the NYSOM beat

Passes the whip test. I change my stance on the Preme beats. It's what we asked for. Straight 90s grimey shyt. Nas pen game is just above everything else. 4.8 outta 5 for me.

Writers is an unreal song to come into existence. NYSOM Pt 3 to me is like a Manhattan tyc00n type flip on the originals, but it's still grimy and paranoid. That's dope how he's relating that part of NY to his own growth. I wouldn't be surprised if they made that shortly after the casino deal went through. The lyrical and musical perspective shifts on this album are CRAZY. Also, when listening to Bouquet you gotta realize how hard it is to write a song like that without coming off corny. This shyt is a masterpiece of lyricism. To me this has far more depth than the Hit Boy projects.

Bet, I'll give it a whip test. Probably sounds better if I was back home. They gotta grow on me.
