I truly don't understand what's so special about these raps. I must be missing something cause there's definitely nothing mind blowing here. especially compared to Nas in his prime. What exactly stands out here?....I mean it's definitely good. But nothing to be going crazy over. I've heard better from Benny and Conway to be honest. Much better.
I moved the dial to improve the sound
Years later got a Sony stereo-system
No comparison with the boombox, my livin' room knocks
My nikka Mayo next door, he bangin' on the wall, told us to stop
Take me back, drugs and money, we crudie, lungs smoky
Fiends in the hallway, bummy, just finished the Old E
Music savin' our lives, just listen and gettin' fried to underrated MC's
Sprayin' somethin' to hide the aroma
Still in my mom's cribs, was young and lazy
Quit school 'cause I needed fly shyt, the fiends would page me
Not tryin' to be locked on a big Queen's crazy
Guess jeans and Polo jacket, just in the crib causing all this racket
Always knew I was the verbal assassin
There's absolutely no way you can honestly say these raps are better than this. It's not even possible.
I did past life regression last year and it fukked me up
Reincarnated on this earth for a hundred plus
Body after body, lesson after lesson
Let's take it back to Michigan 1947
My father kicked me out the house 'cause I wouldn't listen to him
I didn't care about his influence, only loved what I was doin'
Gifted as a musician, I played guitar on a grand level
The most talented where I'm from, but I had to rebel
And so I'm off in the sunset, searchin' for my place in the world
With my guitar up on my hip as the story unfurled
I found myself with a pocket full of money
And a whole lot of respect, while the record business loved me
I was head of rhythm and blues
The women that fell to they feet, so many to choose
But I manipulated power, as I lied to the masses
Died with my money, gluttony was too attractive
Another life had placed me as a black woman in a Chitlin' Circuit
Seductive vocalist as the promoter hit the curtains
My voice was angelic, straight from heaven, the crowd sobbed
A musical genius what the articles emphasized
Had everything I wanted, but I couldn't escape addiction
Heroin needles had me in fetal position, restricted
Turned on my family, I went wherever cameras be
Cocaine, no private planes for my insanity
Self-indulged, discipline never been my sentiments
I needed drugs, to me, an 8-ball was like penicillin
fukk love, my happiness was in that brown sugar
Sex and melodies gave me hope when nobody's lookin'
My first assistant was a small-town scholar
Never did a Quaalude 'til I got myself around her
My daddy looked the other way, he saw sin in me
I died with syringes pinched in me
Reincarnated
You can actually see the clear difference in their writing now. Kendrick's writing is much more fleshed out where Nas is more focused on singular tight fitting bars. Kendricks writing is more similar to how Nas used to write back in the day. You can tell Kendrick just hits the pad and starts writing freely like an actual author would. His writing flows seamlessly from one line to the next. And GNX actually wasn't even Kendrick trying to go crazy lyrically. He came with a commercial album after the success of the battle and was more focused on creating commercial hits. He was really only focused on rapping for like 4 songs. But it's very obvious that when Kendrick goes crazy he's a better writer and rapper than Nas today.
