20 years ago if you had told me Christiana Aguilera would have a better album with DJ Premier than Nas I would have laughed in your face. But that's what happened.
:manny:

Xtina only have like 4 or 5 primo joints on a double album. And that's rnb. So it's really apples and oranges here

“Remember When is the lowest form of conversation”
-Tony Soprano

I am reminded of this quote every time I listen to this album.

Agree that NaS overdoes the reminiscing, possibly my all time favorite rap song is Memory Lane...

What I'm curious about is what new music you would recommend that has doper raps than what Nasir currently puts out ?

If you meant that quote as a half joke i get it but otherwise the remember when talk is a conversational device when you dont really have a subject to discuss WHICH IS EXACTLY WHERE RAP IS RIGHT NOW, steep creative decline...

no videos, no other interviews outside of the budden one (which was great)....boy this chit was so misshandled and NAS is my goat best to ever do it easily

Thats how he does it nowadays. Magic 1 didnt have a video for Wave Gods until 3 months after it.
Magic 2 waited like a month to release videos for Motion and Black Magic. Magic 3 had a video for Fever but a few weeks later I think and then MONTHS later did one for Sitting with my Thoughts and Love this Feelings (like 6-7 months later)

Its tough cause he not on a major that will boost views and promo, hes working on his own budget. But hes also in the tech where he can see people doing less videos and less views (especiall now with billboard not counting youtube) so he probably also not doing things cause he dont feel like or hes just being too conservative in the face of indie releases.

Nas is up over 100Ms ...there are artist with almost no budget doing 4-5 quality videos for a release and when it drops. Nas is my goat, its ok to say when its just a drop and its not good , they fumbled this project

And they dont see a return on it. The problem in general no one talks about vids anymore and are priotizing them in general, or they pivoting away .
This has been a thing in the record industry for 20 years when it comes to soft promo with dudes either not releasing videos or waiting till months later.

I've seen you in these threads panicking and fretting about how Nas should present this album like hes on a major in 05 and look I get it, if he made more of a run and roll out maybe people would react more positivley and it would feel like a moment to the album but thats how he moves now.:manny:

Lot of dudes just dropping albums on the underground like tapes it moving.

Listening to this shyt on my way home from the bar after a couple of beers- this is a good album :ehh:

Much like Magic 3 it'll probably end up being one of those albums that might get remembered a little more fondly as time goes on.

Right now I think after a couple of weeks people might have forgotten it but Im curious to see how its looked back on as they look at this decade of output and the longevity/later years of his career.

nah bro its not doing justice to the art, if you're going to make a big deal about the album at least do what mobb, ghost or de la did for their releases. no videos no press no nothing. album was just disappointing..production for waiting 25 years was total buns. weak ass beats man ..... Nas was amazing tho

Each artist was in control of their release and what they wanted which is why some did a little, some did a lot to promote them or do videos. We know how Nas gets down, besides King Disease albums, pretty much since he started recording again he takes months to drop vids. You'll probably see videos for this album months later like with the Magic albums.

Overall though the album is cool, beats are fine. Preemo on average is stil good, we've heard worse out there. It was always why when people were dimissing him working with Salaam or Hit Boy I reminded them having a chemistry beats a dream name. Preem has been in a routine formula and I think people who discover his classic shyt think he can still do that when hes just a good servicable boom bap guy now. In that respect I cant say hes ass but I cant expect him to drop a classic.

the real question is WHY do you care if it's promoted. The album in your avatar wasn't promoted either. When it officially dropped in 2003, you couldn't even find it in the record stores in Raleigh. I know this because I was looking for a CD of it then after buying the 1st pressing of the pre-release on vinyl in late 2002. What videos did LB have from the Listening? Why is having videos important in 2026?

I get WHY people want any artist they love, not just Nas, to promote and make a big deal out of their work, because they want the artist to be as hype about their creation as they the fans are. Its called fan-engagement and its traditionally been part of album rollouts since forever so I don’t begrudge any fan for wanting the artists they support to at least feel like their working their projects.

The flip side is that Nas has been in the business over 30 years. He’s seen the ebbs and flows. Ups and downs, comings and goings, etc. He’s even rapped about these things. He’s spoken about it in interviews. He doesn’t like doing the traditional rollouts because he feels like the media focuses on things outside the art. So now that he has control over his career and music he moves at his own pace. He puts out videos when HE wants to. He tours when HE wants to. He puts out the albums HE wants to. And fukk anybody’s opinion on the matter. And guess what, it works for him because he’s still here and still rapping at a high level. One need only LISTEN to the projects to tell that he truly gives a damn. He’s rapping his ass off on Light-Years. Rapping his ass off on the Legend Has It guest verses. He was rapping his ass off on the Hit-Boy projects.

I’m a huge Nas fan. Of course i’d love to see him debut in the top ten and do songs with Kendrick and Cole that would top the charts and so on and so forth. But at the end of the day, I want the MUSIC to be great and thats what he’s been giving me so ultimately I can’t complain. Nas has comfortably settled into and embraced being a legacy artist. He’s done it with more grace and class than ANY rapper of his stature. You never hear about him clout chasing. Or faking streams. Or embarrassing himself to go viral. He just drops great music and keeps it pushing.
