Life is good & lost tapes are Nas classics but not hiphop classics at all.

nas stans credit the source for five mics with illmatic. But the source changed scores for albums they were wrong about. They did not change IWW. IWW has 5 classics songs and just some cool records. Nas don’t even celebrate that album lol

a lot of albums didn't get 5 mics even after the revised source issue so that's not a valid metric. they fukking gave a 5 mics rating to a benzino album at that time for christ sake

if we talking about classics jay got 3 certified (rd, bp and ba) and 1 arguable (vol 2)

nas got 4 certified (illmatic, iww, stillmatic and the lost tapes) and 4 arguable (god's son, lig deluxe, magic and kd3)

it was a top ten albums of the year 2002 in terms of quality. I don't even care about sells but it went top 10 billboard 200 with little to no promo. I kinda see it like Ice Cube's Kill at will, in between albums that was dope

it's not a proper album so there's no single that's why he rarely perform songs from it often but it's one of nas most critically acclaim project

Ever heard of an album called Madvillany? For the record, Illmatic didn't sell until about 2 years later and platinum 7 years after. Record sales has never been the measuring stick of a classic hip hop album. If that's the case, where do you rank Vanilla Ice's To the Extreme?

You could just make this argument about any album that doesn’t sell. If you think Lost Tapes is discussed alongside Madvillainy you’re delusional and I don’t even care for MF Doom and am a huge Nas fan.
On top of that MF Doom streams as much or more than Nas does consistently.
Anyhow this is all subjective and if you guys believe Lost Tapes is a certified classic that every fan knows back and forwards you’re certainly entitled to that belief.

Damn near every album we call classic that was released after like 1993 is at least gold. So to me sells matter when it comes to classics. A classic has to check that benchmark imo. Now stans just call any album they like a classic.

Not true Purple by Nas is one of his most popular songs. We’ve also had a bunch of rappers copying a similar format of releasing un released songs after the fact, quality wise it’s one of the best projects ever released in rap.
