Nas is basically the black Andreessen Horowitz at this point.
He will likely be a billionaire in due time (if not already). It's interesting the paths he took to this kind of wealth vs the path Jay-Z took of leveraging branding. Nas is getting the same kind of money without all the hoopla or having to publicly attach his name to every move he's making
He’s not getting the same kind of money. :dead:

Salute to Nas though

rashaun_williams Every week people ask me what I think about crypto and I tell them I like the marketplace for digital currencies and can’t pick one currency over another. Well Coinbase announced they are going public via direct listing now and anyone who put in $50k with us in 2014 would have over $9million. Was valued at $30mil then, over last year it was $8billion. Could go public at over 40-50billion. I posted about them 2 years ago, see below:

“Coinbase founder to me “Rashaun, great meeting. We would be interested in speaking with artists/athletes in your portfolio about participating in our series D if there is interest from your side. I really like the idea of getting more people educated and interested in digital currency, so we can spread the benefits of this technology, and celebrities are a great way to do that. In particular I'm passionate about the potential for digital currency to bring financial services to billions of people in the developing world.
The round is essentially full/oversubscribed but I'd like to reserve about $** to get a handful of celebrities into the round, at about $*** each. What would be the most helpful as a next step?” Now look at the next two pics I posted where one of the founders sent his playlist of the artist he likes that he wanted to work with and also what we did wirh Nas 4 years to help his fans get familiar with crypto currency using his influence. Influence is real people, this is a billion dollar company that is VERY SELECTIVE who they let in. Athletes and entertainers are in a great spot to build wealth by investing in great companies they can influence. I’m grateful some of my guys got in! This stuff happens every day. We’ve been in since 2014. Any of you following crypto currency? Any thoughts or questions? #mvpallstarfundiii

Coinbase’s series B raise was $25M, so $500k isn’t an extraordinary amount on the cap table.

Either way, Nas crazy enough has one of the best VC track records out there. Did not see this coming at all.
How does it work? If he put 500k in at that point, how much does he own and how does he eventually get paid?

500k/25M post money valuation = 2%. Coinbase has had a number of rounds since that series B. To keep that 2%, he would have had to ask for the ability to put more money in every time a new round came up to keep him at the same percent. The last raise they had was $300M. I highly doubt QBV was able to keep up with some of these crazy big rounds to keep that 2%, so it's probably pretty diluted by now. Plus who knows if it was $500K.

It's all speculation since we have no idea how much he put in in the later rounds. He's probably diluted by more than 50% like the original tweet says, but who knows. He gets paid in Coinbase stock when the company goes public. At that point, he can cash out, diversify, etc.

All this to say, focus on your money. You make money, you can take more chances like this. Get your bread up.
