If you're nominated 17 times then you're still consider of the 5 best in rap in any year. That's basically saying you're in the comittees minds for releasing dope shyt. He just wasnt Kanye and Eminem or any that high up the profile.
2pac, Snoop, DMX, Rakim, KRS-One, 50 Cent, Cam'ron (

) Scarface, Ice Cube Wu-Tang and Biggie never won a Grammy either but we still got people touting them.
Although I guess Biggie and Nas get Grammy credits for the majority of writing Puffy and Will Smith's Grammy winning albums (which in retrospect is just

)
Me? I didnt think he was gonna win any and thats what made it so bittersweet when he got 4 nominatons. Its basically saying yeah you made a dope album but there's just one or two cats who made bigger records (better is subjective but Drake and the Throne made good shyt too). Thats how the Grammys work, you gotta people dope and popular and thats a rarity in Hip Hop as far as cred go, hence why the same handful always win.
Heck, when Life is Good dropped and people were talking about Grammy prospects in the very thread about the album people were saying they'll probably give it to Drake just off scheduling. Throne stealing a couple was a bit surprisng though seeing as they were nominated last year.
Anyway I say all that to say this: Dont be sitting there pissed off when Kanye West wins the Grammy next year for Yeezus over Kendrick Lamar's GKMC. Cause you know that's gonna happen right? Make of that what you will..
