Listen to "Book Of Rhymes" where Nas talks about making records on the spot. Read the interview with Salaam Remi where he talks about Nas's recording process and how he's turned down some crazy beats from producers. I remember a Source interview from 2004 where Nas was listening to an Alchemist beat cd in his truck. I was hype thinking at least one Alc track would make Street's Disciple and there wasn't one.

Sure that's how he's worked at various times. But Dame Grease has mentioned how Nas specifically picked beats from him, the same way other rappers were at the time. We know he picked Pharrell beats. Heavy D made The Don specifically for him and sent it. People make beats for rappers all the time and take the tracks to them, or send them via A&R/management.

People view Hit Boy as a commercial producer and there's a sector of Nas fans who resent anything Nas does that is remotely commercial. This isn't just exclusive to Nas fans. Much of this board is like that. And you can see the rhetoric withbthe narrative. "Oh it didn't age well"

Which is insanity considering Q-Tip, Pete Rock, and L.E.S have worked on BIG songs that were crossover hits. Hell Premier worked with CHRISTINA AGUILERA

I think he should stick with Hit. While Magic 2 wasn't as great as the others a 7/10 isn't a miss. I say keep it going. Who do we wanna hear him over? Premo? We bassically got that with wav gods. Whatever style of beat you want Hit had shown he can provide. I do think they should take a break though.

Question …… what’s the issue with hit boy beats? Why nikkaz don’t like them ?

His beats sorta sound hollow. He's good at mimmicking other producers sound but has no real identity of his own and misses all the little idiosyncransies and textures that all the great producers have. And his drums sound flat.

The thing with Hit-Boy was he went from being an elite producer for club bangers in the 2010s to an above average sample based producer.

He's good at what he does but people justifiably push back on some of the more derranged Nas stans on this forum who act like he's the hip hop Mozart for making some offbrand Bink, Madlib and Just Blaze beats
