He said in an interview that he’s been criticized for not picking the best beats but that he picks beats that both challenge and inspire him.


He NEVER said that he picks “bad” beats on purpose. NEVER. He said that his lyrics are most important to him but that alot of the time the beats influence the writing

I remember him saying around the time after Hip-Hop Is Dead and before Untitled that some songs that people think have "bad beats" are unusual songs that they start off making to get in a zone, but those songs often end up making the album instead staying on the cutting room floor, and will be picking the right songs that fit the albums theme which what he did for Untitled and Life Is Good. So he basically said beats wasn't a problem, track selection is. His unreleased music would point that out to anybody.
