I understand as an artist and old man he's on a different vibe but I'd love it if he just did a raw album one time. Not content wise but production. I listen to the beats on Westside Gun's projects and think Nas would make a classic in his sleep rapping over them.

Ye, Timbaland, Swizz, Salaam, etc just don't mesh with him. They just can't capture the right feeling sonically. It's like when you got to that one Primo beat and Nas just sounds like he's on another level from all the other songs.
Couldn't say better myself

But raps over a lot of shyt with no drums or slow boom bap snare shyt. That’s not Nas’ wave. He needs up tempo drums. Break beats, faster boom bap shyt (think Premo’s drums), etc.

The Griselda wave and what Madlib/Alchemist is doing is kind of a modern boom bap. I know that sounds weird since drums aren't at the forefront and the tempo is slowed but Nas would still sound great and it would connect him to the modern underground.

Imagine a Nas Madlib album:wow:

This is not true at all especially in Salaam Remi's case. Primo has given Nas classics, but they don't have a "Made You Look". Its a street joint that was serviceable to radio and the clubs. Nas and Salaam had incredible chemistry and that was something shined on God's Son and Life Is Good.

Kanye and Nas were good. "Still Dreamin" was dope.

Swizz and Nas have potential. "Adult Film" and "No Bad Energy" showcased that.

Nas and Timbaland is a well of untapped potential. This snippet is still crazy:

I strongly disagree.

When Nas and Primo link it's a classic every time. There's a reason for that. Primo's beats hit you dead in the chest. You feel them and that gets Nas on his A game. Jay and Big too.

Nas and Salaam were hit and miss. Ye's production, mainly the drums, was too soft although I like Still Dreaming I'm talking about their album. Again hit, miss, and mostly forgettable. Tim just isn't the right fit. He lacks that grit that 90's NY mc's thrive over. Swizz is trash to me so I don't want to hear him period:hubie:

I will actually amend my statement since I fukked that up, I didn’t mean to include the albums where he competed (and won) against Hov. I’m talking about after that, you’re right. 2002 was his last hit. I just don’t get how you win the crown on the mic and then do nothing to compete afterwards. Hov is hyper competitive. In fact Hov is a jerk lol, as many competitive people are. His moves are strategic and meant to score points. I get that Nas isn’t gonna go tit for tat and I don’t blame him. But you gotta give people what they want sometimes. You can’t just “do you” and let the other guy run up the score.

To me that’s the frustrating thing about being a Nas fan. I wanted that Stillmatic focus in 2003, when Hov dropped Black Album, I wanted Nas to do his own statement album, working with the best producers in the game. When Hov retired, I wanted a KONY type album from Nas. That’s just how I think though. And then after LIG...I wanted more albums and working with the new generation of rappers and producers. Maybe Nas wanted to and ran out of time. We know he’s wanted to work with Hit Boy for years...maybe he wanted to do this in 2014-2015.

Blame Kelis.

Nas and Premo have classics together, but everything they did wasn't classic. Ironically, "Classic" is one of their lesser songs and considering Rakim and KRS are on it, it doesn't feature a grade A Nas verse. That "Re-Generation" track wasn't hittin either.

Salaam produced some of Nas's best songs.

Nas doesn't just thrive of gritty NY production, which is part of the criticism of why Nas gets so much flack. People want to put him in the box of only catering to a certain sound and if he goes outside of it, it is automatically considered wack. Nas has created incredible songs over all types of production. And if we just limited him to Premo, his career would literally be defined by like 10 songs when Nas is far more versatile.

What response I dap?

tua said nas would cry and throw a fit if fans dont like his material which is far from reality

only 1 dap; you :russ:

all g breh your jayz breakdown made up for it

:russ:

edit; ima take this time to rant

theres a lotta nas fans/stans in here

for me nas drops classics everytime

every single nas album is a classic; but then again i never expected nas to create illmatic pt 2

what i expect from nas is lyrics, topics, beats, homage and things that speak to me as a person

every single nas album is a classic because it spoke to me

it was original; not what the next man is doing or saying

it was in sync wit the times; i am and nastradamus dealt with the new millenium

stillmatic to HHID dealt with the early 2000s

nas always raps about what is relevant in my life

this man gave birth to many rappers and content so that is the standard i hold him to

when i experience a nas album the first time it is an experience akin to seeing a movie in the theater.

this theater is in my mind though

in these moments i realize i got love for hiphop so much

so that my love goes out to whoever is reading this because we are sharing an experience together

the war is against love we under attack

p.e.a.c.e.

Why can't you if that's not your goal? He's not in some eternal comp with Jay.

Not trying to limit him but there's a reason his catalog is heavily critiqued and it's not because of his pen.
