we are talking about music, personal feelings is really the only barometer. its not science, there is no set formula for the perfect album. it really depends solely on what appeals to the listener.

if someone were to say its his most creative/lyrical/content heavy/socially conscious/personal/sonically cohesive album, there would be room to speak objectively. if someone says its his best album, well thats really reliant on personal preference

This. Can't believe people calling it classic. Its a very "safe" hip hop album. Good songs but nothing mind blowing. The no intro track is a great way to start the album but it ends up being the best track. Everything else is good to great moments, no timeless bangers. Iww has multiple classic tracks lig maybe has one. No Contest.

it's very hard to take anything away from illmatic as one of the best albums and there aren't going to be many true believers that will replace it with LIG. however, i think this album was excellent and i actually prefer it over illmatic and many of his other albums. it was on par with the untitled album, at best imo and it's still not better than the lost tapes. it's all opinion based for the most part and i do have to the OP for wanting to give this album it's due in a these strange times for rap.

The way I see it when it comes to Nas albums every LP he has released has a purpose and gives a certain aura as a hip hop fan in general. Some can argue about some of his body work but as a listener evey album does take you on a journey while doing it an very simplistic way and always having a central theme. Let's put this way if I was a movie director I can make fully feature movies purely from certain songs by Nas. You cannot say much for some of the top rap guys in the current environment
