their songs together tend to be pretty even.
This is one of the most underrated rap records ever, imo. People love it but it deserves more, way more, this shhit is dumb fire, still. That’s why expectations are tricky, avoid setting them shhits if you can, just deliver.

Jay-z said his favorite time in the studio was making that BBC pause record with Nas, I can’t remember where he said it but he said it, I think on a Twitter or IG interview or sumn. You could hear from the energy of the song they was just in there lit and enjoying the time, lol, I fux with the record

i thought jay took it on black republican. and i dont like the hook very much, kinda lazy. the "fukk it then" part bothers me
beat is great but jay coulda put a little more work into that hook. his verse was great
seriously something about that hook bothers me, like jay was listening to kick in the door when he wrote it. ya know im surprised he run with them, think they got cum in them, cause they nothing but dikks, tryna blow up like nitro and dynamite sticks while more of biggies rhymes come out of my lips.... but i digress
i know 10000000% that jay wrote that buttcheek of a chorus... man, jay really knows how to fukk up a hook. i guess i should be thankful he didnt quote austin powers again or some caekcaekcaek shyt instead

yea thats why i had my whole little rant lol
but maybe theres something to be said for that. the chorus is treated like an afterthought almost, like breathing time between verses. kills the song IMO. i know im overly critical but i expect a little better from 2 emcees of this caliber than rhyming "republican" and "fukk it then"
i notice its pretty standard really. especially rappers like eminem. dude will autistically write a 64 bar verse or whatever, meticulously craft his cheese bars, then say "aw fukk it, let skyler grey just warble some shyt here for 4-8 bars" (kendrick did this on section.80 a lot lol)
it just doesnt make sense to me. why work so hard on the verse and not the hook? would be like having ruths chris with a mcflurry for dessert or something
