I'm not big on him not finishing his rhymes and having the crowd do it. He does that alot.

Thats crowd anticipation to me, plus some cats want to know if heads are really fans like that. Ive seen Nas a handful of times, he mixes it up well to me. I've seen Ra do the same thing effectively.

I get it but the best performers (KRS, Red/Meth, Busta...) don't do it too often. They just usually go out and rip their verses and the fans love it. Nas is a much better performer now than he used to be but I wish he didn't do the fans performing his verses shyt as much as he does. In this clip the fans performed basically the whole song themselves.

I can see both sides of it. I have my own theories on why cats like Nas and Ra do it (has nothing to do with physical ability, memory and etc). I dont have it fully articulated right in my head yet though to fully output and make sense.

I love Nas and I don't know why he does it but that shyt comes off weak if done too much. Fans love when their favorite rappers just rip their favorite verses live, word for word. Perfect examples are Jada during his Verzuz performances or when Busta kills his double time flow without missing a beat on stage. Nas best performances are when he actually spits his verses. This particular performance woulda been even liver if he woulda just roasted Jay by spitting those Ether bars word for word.

This is why ether is a better diss track than takeover. The energy of this song live is phenomenal. When you compare this to Jay performing takeover on MTV unplugged it's blatant

"In this clip the fans performed basically the whole song themselves."

This is part of what makes this performance classic. Nas was only 31 years old as well.

The performance is definitely classic, I'm not denying that. But the performance is so lit more for the energy in that park that day than Nas' actual performance.

I can appreciate that. I've seen artists act lazy.

I guess it's the way this topic was framed, then I watched it and laughed because it's so epic.

New York, summer, whole park rapping his track.

And him - yes he does seem a bit tipsy maybe - but it all adds to it. It adds to the aura of not even trying.

Him running it back is also crazy.

I always thought Takeover was the better song while Ether’s impact far exceeded it. There’s a reason “getting Ethered” has been a phrase for 20 years and Takeover has never been referred to that way.
