Nas and Electron deserve their nominations

Jay at 50 still more than deserved his 4:44 nominations

Songs like Story of OJ and Bigger Picture are powerful songs that define our times. This should be the music being lauded not nikkas getting nominated because they rapped about selling dope really well for their niche real rap audience.

It’s not about age it’s about the culture and how the music resonates within society. I’m sure those artists you named as old heads their music was still impactful.

The only people listening to Royce 5’9 in 2020 is a niche audience. Gibbs is also a niche artist. Disrespectful to have them ahead of Lil Baby who was completely dominant.

Notice how I said Kool Moe Dee and Slick Rick but didn’t say LL or Kool G Rap who were still dropping culturally dominant music alongside Nas and Biggie
its not about most popular album...
...it's about whats best.

Youre arguing for McDonalds to win the Burger of The Year title because they sold the most.

U nikkas son

Popularity matters in life it’s just the truth those who should be recognized are the ones who have an impact on our culture those who are influential

There’s nothing special about Royce or Gibbs albums nothing.

And there’s nothing that makes them better albums than My Turn. The music on My Turn is better.

You know, I know, and everyone else knows that's a lie :mjlol:
its the truth.

if that was the case...they would go off of record sales like the American Music Awards.

The Grammys has industry people as voters...
...the problem they've always had w/ hip hop is they didnt have actual folks in hip hop.

Yeah popularity is part of it...but its not everything.

Some things aren’t opinions.

Gibbs shyt is extremely one dimensional.

Y’all made it so easy for him. All he needs to do is link with a throwback producer, make 10 songs of the same gangsta shyt, package it well (cover, name) and y’all gon dikk suck it as the best shyt ever. :mjlol:

Gibbs is a bit one-dimensional, that also can be said for dozens of more rappers though. Should an a artist not be considered solely because of repetition in subject matter?

U can be good and sell a lot

Just say you like traditional 90’s rapping and keep it pushing

Lil Baby really be rapping but because it’s packaged in melodies and a Southern drawl with modern lingos and speech patterns he’s trash

Jay done sold the most, DMX, Pac, Biggie, 50, etc. and they’re said to have dropped “classics” and albums of the year but suddenly in 2020 Lil Baby is just McDonald’s

Veterans of what nikka they’re niche artists

Jay Electronica the nikka that disappeared for 10 years

Gibbs the nikka that makes the same shyt over and over again

Get real y’all like these nikkas because they remind y’all of the 90’s it’s 20 fukking 20

The Weeknd being screwed over by the Academy is what you should be upset about, not this. It bothers you that much that Freddie Gibbs and Jay Electronica are getting nominations for an award they might not even win? :dwillhuh:

I'd say folks are more upset how off these nominations are. I barely pay attention to the nominations but if you look over the past five years or so, the Grammys did a decent job of picking artists who were culturally relevant AND put out good bodies of work.
2020: 21 Savage, Dreamville, Meek, Cordae, and Tyler.
2019: Nipsey, Mac Miller, Travis Scott, and Pusha.

Those nominations made sense. This year's...not so much outside of Nas and maybe Freddie.

I see your point, but 2020 was definitely a weird year in that a lot of artists didn't come out with anything. The big three (Kendrick, Drake, Cole) are easy nominations, but they didn't release anything. I'm almost certain 2021 will be business as usual.

What I think is happening here is that with the lack of relative "stars," the committee changed their approach with hip hop this year. The young generation of guys like Lil Baby and Roddy will get their recognition with the single categories, but in terms of albums, there was an intentional shift to spotlight the older artists, the guys that have been in the game for years and continue to put out solid work. That's where Nas, Royce, and Freddie come in. Jay Elec was a weird choice, but at least the Jay-Z association is there to give the album more credibility. This category was tailored towards more traditional hip hop, probably as a reflection of who's voting.

I’m not mad at Jay Electronica or Nas nominations more so mad at the others.

And no Lil Baby’s snub is as big as The Weeknd’s. It’s embarrassing that Weeknd, Summer Walker, and Lil Baby have no nominations, these three have dominated their genre over the last year.

Clearly you don’t understand how big dude is and the year he just had.
