I'm on Woah on Lil Baby Album My Turn:ehh:

So far I dig the beats, but this flow, Migo flow whatever the fukk it is that these new cats be doing for the past 5 year's, gets repetitive. Just fukkin spit, but I guess this what's in:francis:

I see your point, but 2020 was definitely a weird year in that a lot of artists didn't come out with anything. The big three (Kendrick, Drake, Cole) are easy nominations, but they didn't release anything. I'm almost certain 2021 will be business as usual.

What I think is happening here is that with the lack of relative "stars," the committee changed their approach with hip hop this year. The young generation of guys like Lil Baby and Roddy will get their recognition with the single categories, but in terms of albums, there was an intentional shift to spotlight the older artists, the guys that have been in the game for years and continue to put out solid work. That's where Nas, Royce, and Freddie come in. Jay Elec was a weird choice, but at least the Jay-Z association is there to give the album more credibility. This category was tailored towards more traditional hip hop, probably as a reflection of who's voting.

Who was voting in years past? Did new people join the committee?

Kanye West literally PISSED on a Grammy and streamed it to millions of people and still got a nomination

Eminem isn’t America’s Great White Hope anymore (and hopefully there will never be one again) and Hip Hop has fortunately largely moved on from him. I’d like to se him fade into obscurity
The Oscars allocated a set for him to do a 20 year old song this year and Joe Biden used his song a day before the election to garner buzz in Michigan and the mere audio of Lose Yourself in Biden's commercial was the #1 trending topic on social media that day.

You always triggered by Em but get the delusion out your heart :mjlol:

I’m not mad at Jay Electronica or Nas nominations more so mad at the others.

And no Lil Baby’s snub is as big as The Weeknd’s. It’s embarrassing that Weeknd, Summer Walker, and Lil Baby have no nominations, these three have dominated their genre over the last year.

Clearly you don’t understand how big dude is and the year he just had.

Lil Baby was nominated twice, what are you talking about? :why:

He’s not nominated for album of the year nikka that’s what we talking about :comeon:

At first, you were upset he wasn't nominated for Best Rap Album, then you said he wasn't nominated for anything. He got nominated twice. They didn't snub him like you're talking about. Unless he loses which we won't know for two more months.

Clearly, the committee had a certain direction in mind for the Best Rap Album nominees. None of the people in that category are under 35, and none of them were nominated for any other rap category, which are all dominated by younger artists.

Yeah, in recent years, they started having more people in the hip hop community join the committee. 9th Wonder is one of them. When A Tribe Called Quest didn't get nominated for anything in 2017 (for the 2018 Grammys), Q-Tip called out 9th specifically because he felt like the group was being exploited (since they performed at the Grammys earlier that year and stole the show).

I believe in the past, the voters consisted more of middle-aged white guys. Music critics with clear biases in place, like @Piff Perkins alluded to.

It looks like the Grammy heads told 9th Wonder, come up with your own list and bring it back to us by deadline, we don't care.
Wait 9th part of the committee now?
Damn from NC humble beginnings to Duke University Professor to Grammy nominee picking. :wow:

Lil Baby album had more content and was more versatile than Gibbs shyt :mjlol:

The Bigger Picture was the conscious song of 2020 and his album had something for everyone :mjlol:

And he raps his ass off and with melody :flabbynsick:

And its been nominated twice

Lot of people havent looked at the other rap categories, just the album one. Those look more in tuned with what you expect with Dababy, Roddy, Lil Baby, Meg getting nominations and its just this album category thats different

I said it earlier but they kinda balance things out. People talk so much nowadays with streaming and playlists on if albums matter with the younger generation so their artists got to eat in the single categories whereas the older artists like the Gibbs/Pusha T/Griselda/Nas/Royce types who still carefully make albums the old school way and do still get talked about not just on the coli but twitter/youtube/blogs/music review critic sites are getting a seat at the table for making good albums
