It's not tho...you are an artist right? Then make art and then they wonder why established music genres don't respect hip hop/rap...the rappers don't even respect their craft. And by establishing genres I'm referring to jazz/oldies/black musicians etc.

And Ro isn't a bad example. He making music regardless. He got another album coming out soon and I can't wait.

I'm saying Z-Ro has always operated outside of the mainstream so he's better adapted to the environment Nas is suggesting for older acts.

And I dunno what the rest of your post means. A bunch of older acts from other genres don't put out new music. Rolling Stones has put out 4 albums since 1994....Aerosmith has put out 4 albums since 1997. Metallica just put out an album that didn't even go gold.

And all of them can tour and make a fukk ton of money, off their older shyt. Acts (rap, rock, whatever) that been around 25-30+ years consistently dropping new music is not a regular occurence, breh.

Meth and Havoc got an album coming out.
The one that was announced before COVID?:aicmon:

But if I was a rapper from yesteryear I don't think I would even have any motivation to drop music in this era. Put in all that work and money for something that's probably gonna brick

No they still do music and tour. That's what I mean.

And Ro been rapping on wax since 98...that's over 20 yrs. Busta dropped 2 albums since 2020. I'm saying it don't matter if you independent or mainstream...they wanna be considered artists then they gotta still do the art.

All the OG’s need to hear this

This here.

Nas is right. Daddy-O said the same recently. A lot of the OG's sit back and complain about the state of the culture, but then you look at their output, and dudes haven't released sh*t in decades. Some of my favorite MC's from back in the day just talk sh*t all day now, but they don’t even make new music anymore. I still say that you can't complain about sh*t if you're not even contributing today.

Old nikkas BEEN droppin albums. I think Nas for whatever reason is purposely talking about the likes of Em, 50 and Jay.

nikkas that used to move the culture.

:wtf:

Nas is kinda extremely late. Ghost, Styles, AZ, etc was hella active in the 2010s (and sometimes got no fanfare whatsoever).

Them nggas are like 50 now and some are close to SIXTY. They’ve earned the right to not gaf about making more music if they so chose
True.

People have been dropping albums. There are not a lot of them, but there's enough.

The problem is that it will always be difficult for them to tap into a younger market, and a large part of their demo still don't be plugged in enough to the new ways to keep up when said artists drop.

Even them grabbing a modern producer isn't going to help. The run the risk of alienating both youth (nobody wanna hear no old guy) and a their core fans (he tryna ride these younger trends but need to make music for us). Then the older fan half still want the sound when the artist was 20...

Nas hit a perfect storm. But someone else can do that and it still gets their usual results of crickets. But as for myself, I'll continue to purchase music from the artists I'm fans of...as long as they keep making it.
