nothing wrong with keeping your foot on someone's neck. and nas fans act like this Nasir album wasn't about to die down anyway? If it wasn't for Kanye, outside of hardcore Nas stans and Hip Hop purists, the album only had about 3-5 days of shine in the media. There weren't any real standout joints to carry the album for that long. It was a nice joint for hip hop and it was cool to hear a Nas and Ye collab. Outside of that I don't know what people were expecting..

It doesnt help Nas isnt doing any type of promotion or interviews. I guess at this stage of his career he doesn't care about sales.

Only one doing Interviews is Push and I understand that because he's milking the publicity from the beef. Nas really doesn't have to interview and I'd imagine with those remarks from Kelis a few weeks back, he's trying to steer clear of the media anyway. Plus Nas is a terrible interview he gets really weird and makes himself and the interviewer uncomfortable.

I don't think he doesn't care about sales tho. I think the reason he's working with Kanye is to get more sales. He knows Ye' has a demographic and reach that is wider than his currently. By working with Ye, he aligns himself with that camp and he'll garner interest from a new group of listeners he otherwise wouldn't have had access to. I think if Nas would've just dropped on his own, he still would've had success but he wouldn't have drawn any new blood. He knows in order to stay viable or at least visible and credible you can't totally ignore the new generation. Nas fans that have been rocking with him for years are die hard, but like Bob Dylan said, If you're not busy being born, you're dying. He had to switch it up in the new era to survive.

Kanye started doing interviews in May.

Yea I agree Nas is terrible at interview

No if he really wanted sales and a younger audience why not reach out to Mike Will or Metro Boomin. Kanye doesn't exactly equal commercial sucess in 2018.

Nas flow never changed ever. His flow on Nasir is exactly the same as it was on Illmatic. One of his weaknesses is he only has one flow and one style. He's not going to do well on trap beats and it would be an easy way for his fans to say he sold out. Nas is an NY east coast legend so for him to go to the south to try to get hot would be the wrong move. Kanye has his roots in sample based production that he learned from East Coast legends like Pete Rock, Premier and RZA. It wasn't too far off for him to go with Kanye.

I didn't say Kanye equated to a commercial success and I don't think that's what Nas was going for. Like I said, it was a strategy to get new listeners from a different demographic outside of his normal die hard fans. He's already a legend but what he needs at this point wasn't JUST another album. He needed new listeners. It's a smart move for him to work with Kanye because of his hipster base and his residual credibility that has carried him since College Dropout. Jay is really the King of Hip Hop and Drake is the Prince of the charts but Kanye is really like the hand to the king which is more powerful than both because of his ability to orchestrate plays. He can operate as a standalone piece, bring many people together or make someone else relevant. I think people forget how many legendary careers Kanye has both birthed and revived himself. If you think about it Kanye is essentially doing for Nas in 2018, what he did for Common in 2006.

Thats not true.

As much as I love Push. He ain’t doing 75K without the Kanye hype train. I’m not saying he has a “stimulus” package per say but a Kanye Produced album from ANY MC automatically gifts that MC a certain amount of exposure and commercial viability.

Ye did 208k first week on a SEVEN SONG EP. Thats more than Culture 2 did with 21 tracks. More than the Weeknd’s EP did.

Kids See Ghost did 175k and is Cudi’s highest debut week in YEARS. Cudi’s career was floundering before this and his last came and went like a fart in the wind.
