It has the same problem Jay's double album has in that it shouldn't have been a double album. Then the songs that got left off ("Serious," "Foul Breeze," "Talk of New York") outshined some of the songs that made the cut by a wide margin. Although, I understand that there was label interference because it went through a lot of changes. At one point, it was a triple album and then a single album.

Nas himself is fantastic on the album. He was an animal, going after those beats like they owed him money. If you cut it down to one album, I could even see Illmatic comparisons because he sounds raw on this, from his lyrics to his voice. He went for more concepts here and was ambitious in a way he hadn't been before. This was when I believe he stopped caring about what anyone thought of his music and just did whatever he wanted regardless of the reaction. That's why up until Life is Good, he was looked at differently.

The first disc is definitely better than the second one, and it should have been cut down to one album, but the way some people treat this like an abomination is weird to me.

The good is super good and the throwaway type shyt is clearly throwaway shyt that shoulda stayed shelved lol. Itโ€™s a notch below mediocre imoโ€ฆif he condensed it and just kept like the best 12 joints it would be a dope album
