Look I appreciate the 'It Was Written' album...

But point blank saying Nas didnt sell out is without doubt revisionist history.

I absolutely get what Art and Mel is saying... its true facts... i was there... if you weren't there your not going to understand...

Primarily because 'It Was Written' was a good album, and because the sound that Nas sold out to became dominant... so younger heads even dudes who are 30 now are going to look back at it and see it as just flowing with the changing sound of hip hop...

Really what it was was one of the last bastions of a certain mentality giving up on that mentality and adopting a different mentality in order to make more money and get more fans... Certain folks have a hard time forgiving Nas for this album, because it was the official throwing in the towel on the old hip hop, and the start of the new 'selling out is cool' mentality.

The quality of the songs really isnt the point as far as that discussion goes. Its not a debatable point, nas literally changed up his style to attempt to get radio play and record sales... its the definition of a sell out...

Now I would say, given that he was able to achieve his goal by creating true hits, while still making lyricism the focus of the album... its probably the best sell out album in my lifetime... but doesnt change the fact of what it was.

Scientifik sampled it. What u heard of or didn't hear of isn't really my concern tho. Lol

And yes everything worked on Illmatic. I think they did on IWW too. It ain't like Nas ain't have a relationship wit Mobb. It ain't like he wasn't on they album the year before and nikkas wasn't sweatin the song. U woulda thought nikkas woulda been happy they collabed again for his album. But nah. shytty hard to please hip hop fans never fail. Always complaining about somethin. It's not like they QB artists as well or anything. Nah. Let's just shyt on it. Either way while IWW wasn't as coherent as Illmatic. It still had the same vibe throughout. If IWW ain't coherent. Ready To Die ain't. U nitpicking bro. Lol

You were jamming to Scientifik in 1992 at age 8 or however old you were? Be for real, man.

how about this. listen to how TERRIBLE Nas' slave voice impression is on that insipid intro. That's the primer for the shyt show that's about to unfold.

or when he goes... "it's like i'm a gun....i'm a gun' on Power. Thanks Nas, we woulda missed that otherwise.

Ready To Die has GREAT songs. I was blown away by Ready To Die. You couldn't pit 2 albums together that gave me more extreme differing reactions than those 2. BIG was a natural at playing both sides of the fence. Nas has one very distinct lane he excels in.

Also, BIG wasn't the supposed chosen one either.

It ain't about what I was jamming too tho. Lol but either way bottom line is my nikka @FreshAIG made a thread on the lyricism of one song and nikkas who supposedly hate the album and Nas came in derailing the shyt. And it never fails.

An album with:

Take It In Blood
I Gave You Power
Shootouts
Suspects
Street Dreams
Live nikka Rap

Is not a dull album by any means :comeon: Even Affirmative Action and Black Girl Lost were dope cuts. Just say you're mad Nas put out IWW instead of Illmatic 2 like you wanted. :mjlol: That's the only real reason I can see why the album got hate when it dropped.

I'm just glad IWW is getting the props it deserves at this point.

Breh......the first time I heard I Gave You Power I was like :wow:
