Nas himself has said he initially wasn’t going to respond to Takeover because he simply didn’t care. His mother was sick, he was going through shyt with Carmen, he and Steve Stoute weren’t seeing eye to eye, etc.

Jungle is the one who convinced Nas to respond, that and the fact that the streets were telling him Takeover was a career ender. The streets just wouldn’t let it go so he knew he had to go to war.

Nas never thought much of Jay as an MC, he had to have his eyes opened to how much Jay had ascended in the eyes of the Hip Hop culture. Once he grasped just how serious the situation was he went all in.

Stop it.

Nas had served jayz.
Numerous times already from the mixtape scene.
Jayz publically responding to diss.
Afyer ducking for close to 18 months or more.
From Numerous angles of variety from fat joe, prodigy and Nas. that was of quality on a major release finally.

Takeover was a superior record, glad it motivated Nas to get out of his funk alongside his moms passing. I believe what Toure is saying because Nas basically intimated some similar thoughts in that first verse on Ether.….nikkas was shytting on his grave for sure

I whole heartly believe that Nas thought Jay-z was corny as fukk and legitimately confused as why anyone would think Jay was on his level lol

He didnt drop a solo album for almost 3 years and in that time, jay suddenly became his compeition. Mentally, he just couldnt grasp that concept lolll he lived through all the hawaian sophia shyt and just couldnt take him seriously.

Jungle and the streets had to show him how serious it was, his disgust was on ether was authentic

Well this just proves Nas was delusional and out the loop. He had been passed by Mase,DMX and Jay by this time. And Jada,Ja Rule and Fabolous was on his bumper:mjlol:

Doesn't really matter what he thought about Takeover. The truth is the streets knew what it was, agreed with it,and thought Nas was probably cooked.

Nas pretty much admits all this in Ether

"I've been fukked over, left for dead, dissed and forgotten
Luck ran out, they hoped that I'd be gone, stiff and rotten
Y'all just piss on me, shyt on me, spit on my grave (uh)
Talk about me, laugh behind my back but in my face
Y'all some "well wishers, " friendly acting, envy hiding snakes
With your hands out for my money, man, how much can I take?
When these streets keep calling, heard it when I was sleep
That this Gay-Z and Cockafella Records wanted beef"

Admitted he was sleep and out the loop. And admitted he had been forgotten,a relic and a corpse. And Jay-Z was happy to take advantage of that.

That's understandable, but the game went on without him. Nobody really cared about Nas missing in action because the East Coast was actually feeding us just fine at the time. And based on what Nas was releasing, wasn't like he was about to restore the "sanctity" of East Coast hiphop for purist:. DMX was the answer to the soft shyt.

Nas was literally set up to take over after Biggie passed. Only to be bypassed by Biggies producer,Biggies producers protege(Mase),DMX who nikkas never heard of and Jay-Z of Hawaiian Sophie fame:mjlol:

Has to be one of the biggest fumbles in the history of hiphop. Nas stans should thank Jay every day for that ill advised life line he threw Nas. Drake failed to learn from Jay at all:mjlol:

Nas was in some magazine saying how Jay and Scarface are two of his favorite MCs pre-beef. He was throwing shots at Jay out of respect as he viewed him as his top competition.

Nas planning to lynch a Black Man at Summer Jam = competition

:deadrose::dead:

Yooooooo I really second guess whether I’ve ever loved a woman more than you love Nas
