It's very hard for people to be great artist while simultaneously being great businessmen. Two different sets of skills. If you are a great artist, you're constantly working on/reinforcing the skills that are allowing you to be great. It's inefficient to spend much time honing skills for something, especially when those skills are opposite of the skills that you have perfected.
With that said, Jay Z got allured into the entrepreneur fantasy. He's a good artist but not a very good businessman. He's also a good hustler, and that brings up ethical questions because hustlers will do just about anything to make a dollar.
In the end, do successful businesses matter with respect to being a successful person and making a lot of money? Look at Trump for the answer to that question.
