That take made no sense to me...
Lowry is a better shooter, better ballhandler, and much better defender than Porter ever was.
Derozan and Drexler have totally different games. Drexler was more athletic, but Derozan had a better midrange shot and could actually dribble with his left and handle the ball without looking at the ground.
Toronto has three-point shooters, Portland didn't. Toronto has rim protectors, Portland didn't. Toronto has a deep bench, Portland didn't.
And Toronto plays in a smart, disciplined halfcourt offense...while the Blazers mostly tried to run the court and were famous for collapsing under pressure in the halfcourt.
And even after all that...Portland was by far the best team in the West from 1990-1992. While Toronto has only one year where they even won a single game after the 1st round, and that year they were knocked out of the ECF decisively. And this is the "weak" East, right?
Just makes no sense to compare them at all.

I'm a Blazer fan, of course I remember prime Terry Porter. He was a good player.I think y’all are remembering older Terry from the Spurs go watch Terry on the Blazers was a real good three point shooter, amazing in transition, could run an offense very well. Clyde is all around better than Derozan he can dribble with his left I guess but he is shut down every playoffs. The same thing can’t be said about Drexler.
Raptors are MUCH better defensively than the Blazers were. Lowry, Carroll, Tucker, and Patterson are all better on-ball defenders than what the Blazers had. Ibaka, Biyombo, and even Valanciunas are all better rim protectors than anyone on Portland's squad at that time except arguably Cliff. And the Raptors run much brighter defensive schemes. The response was to if any team played defense that soft they wouldn’t get far in the playoffs and the Raptors have won a round the last 3 years and went to an ECF while also winning 59 games. The Raptors are weak defensively so what, they let us shoot anytime with no resistance.
The coli Where this bum ass Toronto team is overrated year after year and dudes literally go ghost for taking up for them.
They collapsed in the finals but went 6 with MJs Bulls and Zekes Pistons.
And even before that (see my 1992 video above), it didn't mean much. Why do you guys keep saying this?
Real hand checking was outlawed back in 1994.
Eliminating Hand Checking, NBA
From 1990 onward, the NBA made a steady effort to improve offensive effectiveness and reduce physical contact. Among the changes implemented was the elimination of hand checking in 1994. When hand checking was allowed, a defender was able to use his hands to make contact with and impede the progress of an offensive player - this added another degree of difficulty to driving from the perimeter.
THIS IS INACCURATE .. IT WAS BANNED IN 2004. LOOK IT UP.
No it's not. The effective form of hand checking, the one where Derek Harper is known for. Where you could use your open hand on defense and guide the offensive player up and down the court was banned in 1994.
NBA Rules History
1994-95
• Shortened the three-point line (22 feet in the corners extending to 23 feet, nine inches at the top of the key) to a uniform 22 feet around the basket.
• Awarded three foul shots for any player fouled while attempting a three-point field goal.
• Any player who leaves the bench during a fight automatically suspended for a minimum of one game and fined a maximum of $20,000; in addition to losing 1/82nd of his salary for each game, he is suspended.
• Any player who commits two flagrant fouls in one game will be ejected.
• Hand-checking eliminated from the end line in the backcourt to the opposite foul line.
• Technical foul fines increased to $500 each. Formerly, the fines were $100 for the first technical and $150 for the second.
• “Clear path” rule changed to include contact in the backcourt. If a defender, grabs a player when the player has a clear path to the basket on a breakaway, two foul shots will be awarded.
• The second or more of back-to-back timeouts when the ball is not inbounded will be limited to 45 seconds.
2004-05
• New rules were introduced to curtail hand-checking, clarify blocking fouls and call defensive three seconds to open up the game.
You see, the real hand checking rule was established back in 1994-95.
The modified hand checking rule was established in 2004/05.
