Are you serious?

Kobe made the jump to 35ppg because he started shooting 25 times a game since Shaq was gone. Before that he was already shooting about 49-50% on two-pointers every year from 1999 to 2002 and averaged 30ppg in 2003. And that's when he was young and his game was still raw. He improved after that, but the lack of hand-checking didn't do anything for him. When Pau came to the Lakers and Kobe's touches went down, he immediately dropped to 25-27ppg, and that was during his Finals MVP peak. This is obvious.
Hand-checking was first banned in 1979: "Clarification added to prohibit hand-checking through “rigid enforcement” of rule allowing a defensive player to retain contact with his opponent so long as he does not impede his opponent’s progress." And then even that kind was banned in 1995, "Hand-checking eliminated from the end line in the backcourt to the opposite foul line."
Ya'all WAY overrate what they were doing on a regular basis. Show me again where the scary handchecking is stopping scoring in this video. This is the FINALS, both teams supposedly have great defenders on the perimeter, and yet they're at an arm's length 90% of the time and blowing by guys at will.
You want to compare that to the way that Durant/Iggy/Draymond lay hands on LeBron?
