I use to get mad when Illmatic gets brought up. Not because it's a classic but because u would think that's the only album he dropped that's great. Don't get me wrong that's a classic fukkin album. But I feel like he's doing it to his self now that I think about it. What about the other 11 albums he's put out. I know illmatic made a big impact but this documentary should be more about his career honestly. Maybe I'm jumping the gun though.

Its a testament to how great Nas and his diverse and deep catalogue is that hes still here, a relevant artist 20 years after illmatic. Just the fact that he's putting out number 1, Grammy nominated and critically acclaimed albums to this day is proof enough that every album he puts out is celebrated in its own way. Just as Michael Jackson has Thriller and Marvin gaye has What's Goin On it doesn't take away from the greatness of the catalogue. Its simply that Illmatic is the perfect snapshot of a point of great lyrical and sonic change for the genre. It defines the essence of street poetry in a manner that hasn't entirely been recaptured and helped usher in a new age of lyricists. There is not one single MC of any remote credibility who cannot claim to being influenced by illmatic. From Jay-Z to Tupac to Eminem to Drake and Kendrick Lamar, Illmatic is the benchmark for what a debut hip hop album SHOULD be. Honest, thought-provoking, tragic, unflinching, naïve, wise, and poetic. It is THE time capsule for every black male who came of age in New York during the crack era...

I agree with that. Its just that I'd rather them focus on his catalog a little more. Its interesting to see where his mind was at during the other projects. Not taking nothing away from Illmatic at all. I would rather people see his progress regression and him bouncing back on Stillmatic and pushing forward. I feel like Nas is just a little deeper than your average MC. Dude kinda goes over n1ggas heads claiming he has smart/dumb n1gga logic. Ziggiy we both Nas fans breh dont want no problems :whoa::myman:

Looks interesting. I remember buying illmatic just because it was one of the albums people considered a "classic", it didnt impact me on the first listen cuz i was a little younger but as i got older i began to appreciate it.

All i could think about when Nas is talking to that kid on the corner is Pac's line
"It seemed a little unimportant, when he told me i smiled
Picture jewels being handed to a innocent child"
