I still bump Family regularly..........I was thinking about that track while reading the DMX/Grease album thread. Family is one of the better Grease productions created.

Back to the topic, It was a solid album and didnt deserve the hate it got. I think we also gotta consider what was happening in music and around the world during that time. Sometimes those things do influence the way we view an album. To me Streets Disciple is his weakest album....and thats simply because of all the filler. Wittle that album down to 1 CD and I might feel differently about it.

Streets disciple didn't have much filler to me and it aged real well

Bought this album on a trip to the city with my pops. Lady at the register slipped the CD to me early... had this shyt (retail) before all my boys. Loved this album and it gets too much hate.

like others have said...when it dropped (and i remember when it did), the comparison was to illmatic, IWW, The Firm, and I am...imo...I am is his worst project, Nastradamus has a few more better songs than I am has....and it definitely has some bangers

came out before my time to a degree but I think part of the problem with this album looking back was the aesthetic and 'brand' just seemed off with Nas for this album.

as someone else said the vibe jus came off as dated and corny with Nas with the Nastradamus and Owe Me vids. Like the whole vibe just didn't suit Nas and the vids look almost like parody's of the vids of that era

That's just me looking back as someone who only properly got into hip hop ironically with Stillmatic in 2001

good analysis....i remember when it dropped and i think you're spot on with the branding of it...it always came off a rushed 'quota' filled project from the name, to the cover and singles...like if his contract had a 3 album deal...he just threw this out there to fill the requirement and from what I can remember, there was NO buzz or anticipation about it...they played "You Owe Me" alot....but the hype s an album wasn't there.....it just sort of popped up out of nowhere on store shelves....luckily enough though, I've always liked it.

The top 5 tracks on it are better than 2Pac's whole career.

Personally life we chose and project windows are some of my favorite Nas songs ever. Still listen to both of them all the time.
