DETROIT (WWJ) -- A Detroit PAWG is facing charges in the alleged kidnapping of four young children.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Stephanie Marie Binder, 37, in connection with the alleged kidnapping of four siblings -- two boys, ages 5 and 11, along with two girls, ages 8 and 7.
Binder is not related to the children, said authorities.
On Nov. 30, at around 7:30 a.m., Detroit Police conducted a traffic stop on Binder's vehicle for running a red light in the area of Grand River Ave. and Evergreen Ave. on the city's west side.
When officers approached the passenger side of the vehicle, they observed the children in the back seat.
According to police, she claimed that she was in a hurry to take the children to school, but while questioning her, officers said they noticed the children's body language that showed they didn't know the woman and were in trouble.
Officers said when they asked her what school the children attended she could not give a good answer.
Police said they then asked the 11-year-old boy if he knew Binder and he shook his head, no.
Following that interaction, officers said they arrested the woman and safely returned the children to their family.
Furthermore, authorities said that Binder was allegedly driving in a stolen vehicle when she kidnapped the children as they were walking to school.
Binder was charged with four counts of kidnapping – child enticement, four counts of unlawful imprisonment, one count of unlawfully driving away of an automobile and one count of receiving and concealing stolen property – motor vehicle.
