I'm about to give you the REAL nikka Navy breakdown

First things first. fukk what everyone else is talking about. The #1 thing you MUST DO while in the Navy constantly go to the doctor for ANYTHING that may happen to you medically. I don't care how minor it is. You need to do this so you can have documented problems caused by the Military. This will allow you to file a disability claim when you leave the Navy. You can get hundreds of tax free dollars monthly FOR LIFE. Breh, if you don't take any advice about the Navy, please take this. Go all out. Tell them you are depressed, claustrophobic, impotent...etc Just make sure when you leave, the Navy has documented plenty of shyt wrong with you. If a condition or injury occurs for real, then all the more better. Document everything by going to the doctor. It's a million dollar lick an it's easy to hit.

Everything else is really about getting out of the Navy with all your benefits in tact and not getting kicked out. It's gon' be some bullshyt. Ain't no way around it. Smoke weed at your own risk. nikkas be dropping like flies off them piss test.

Not even gonna tell you about the Navy experience because that shyt is random and it basically depends on which duty station you go to and the people that are there at the time. It's gon' be gay as hell tho.
:russ:yo i fell the fukk out when i first read the bolded

but cotdamn breh good lookin on that strategy:salute:

then again its still just a consideration but if i do go i will definitely follow this to a T:mjpls:

Thought you was headed to NC or ATL breh? I'm moving later in the year and be damned if I don't go. As for your question follow what a couple of posters have already said, get your 4 year first.

I mean.... there is a whole playbook for all of that. Don't get married. Save your money by shopping on post, build your credit using a star card, make absolutely sure your training and awards line up and are on paper so that they may be properly translated to college credits. MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU SERVE AT LEAST 36 MONTHS. After that, whatever - 36 months = GI Bill. And that is the win.

I used mine to move out to Hawaii and get paid 3 Gs to bullshyt and be a college kid while working on a separate massive education package through the reserve component now. Also, its easier to get promoted in reserves because you don't have to worry about points like that, military schools/classes are easier to get into, and you get paid to be in school like a third time over. Add in the health insurance savings, employee benefits, out of state tuition adjustments...

just be smart, and treat it like a life decision. joining the military is the rare instance where YOU get to use the system for a change. take advantage of it.

shyt I'm in the same boat (no pun intended) OP. I leave for basic in a couple of months.

Have you been to MEPS and all that yet? What rates are you interested in?

The most crucial advice I can give is at MEPS, DO NOT let those used car salesman, also known as recruiters, con you into signing something that you're not comfortable with. They will try to guilt trip you and make you feel like shyt if you're even a little bit apprehensive. Don't fall for the okey doke and put your foot down from the jump.

I was in the Marines so I know a little bit about the Navy. I hated my short time in the Marines. If I had went Navy I would have probably made it a career and still be in. Whatever you do don't sign up to be a corpsman. They're basically the Marines combat medics. If you enlist as a corpsman chances are you'll be assigned to a Fleet Marine Unit. I haven't read the thread completely so I don't know if you've taken the ASVAB yet but if you haven't try to get as high a score as possible. The higher the score the more jobs are available. Whatever do try to do something that easily translate to a civilian job.

It's not too bad. The corpsmen I knew were cool. It's just you're expected to meet Marine standards when it comes to PT and certain regulations. Plus corpsman have the option to wear all Marine uniforms except the dress blues.

now whats this about the reserves:lupe:
I would never recommend reserves right out the gate. Ever. You get the bargain bin of benefits compared to active duty, don't learn the game and how to network properly, just messy for a person new to the military in general.

Coming out of active duty? Its the best deal its ever been right now. shyt, I can go on orders for a few weeks, get the full GI Bill, VA benefits (free med expenses? shyt is unreal), and work at the same time. Most importantly, I'm one of the few people that knows what they're doing and knows how to communicate that well at my unit so I'll always stay at the front of the line for opportunities. Reserve promotions are a LOT easier to come by because some jobs/positions/ranks are gated by military classes that cost your unit money and they don't want to lose you as you'd be leaving for its duration. In Reserve? People got lives. They mostly don't want to spend 2 weeks, 6 weeks, a few months somewhere even though they're getting paid extremely well for it. So its easier to get those classes quick, and because they promote by slots instead of points, its a breeze to jump through enlisted or warrant ranks.

Honestly, my plan was just to chill in the reserves for a while, but its possible I could hop 3-4 ranks in just this one contract. That'd be impossible in my field in active duty. I'm considering going back in now.... leave active duty a corporal, come back a chief warrant officer speaking mandarin :banderas:

but that's just kinda how you have to be about your planning in general.

FOR YOU though, get that asvab up. Its a big deal. Not saying life will suck with a low score, but higher score = better opportunities
