you shop at walmart? buy nike? drive a car with fukking gas in it instead of a pure electric? pay taxes at all?

you're fukking up the world like everyone else :francis: park that high horse out front. military is fukked up, duh, but its also one of the few systems out there that allow you (damn near encourage you) to fukk it right back and use everything you gain to step above it all, or at the very least step out higher than where you started

lol you're fukking idiot. Some sacrifices are worth it for the long run. You think i wanna cut my dreads off and stop smoking weed for 4 years? no i don't, but with how i plan my life it will be worth it.

"Why should they ask me to put on a uniform and go ten thousand miles from home and drop bombs and bullets on brown people in Vietnam while so-called Negro people in Louisville are treated like dogs and denied simple human rights?

No, I am not going ten thousand miles from home to help murder and burn another poor nation simply to continue the domination of white slave masters of the darker people the world over. This is the day when such evils must come to an end. I have been warned that to take such a stand would put my prestige in jeopardy and could cause me to lose millions of dollars which should accrue to me as the champion. But I have said it once and I will say it again. The real enemy of my people is right here. I will not disgrace my religion, my people or myself by becoming a tool to enslave those who are fighting for their own justice, freedom and equality…

If I thought the war was going to bring freedom and equality to twenty-two million of my people they wouldn’t have to draft me, I’d join tomorrow. But I either have to obey the laws of the land or the laws of Allah. I have nothing to lose by standing up for my beliefs. So I’ll go to jail. We’ve been in jail for four hundred years."

Prior military service can absolutely give you a leg up in the workforce.
Take it from someone with many years as a hiring manager, it looks good on a resume.
iv'e been thinking about this shyt for like 2-3 years now. thinking about doing 4-6 years doing something either medical,IT, or cyber security( also try to obtain a TS or some sort of clearance). while doing my 4-6 years, i wanna save at least 10-25k for when i come out while building good credit. when i get out use my VA loan/first time home buyers loan and buy a duplex or 3-4 bed room house in a college area. rent out rooms and pay my mortgage off. Get a government job in the the DMV with my prior military experience and clearance to get a decent job. 50k-70k a year is what im hoping for. while in that house, i keep saving from the money i get from renting+ my job. and keep buying rental properties and making money off them, until i no longer have to work.

I love that plan. And it's absolutely achievable.

Was Muhammed Ali talking about a volunteer army or a draft?

were the benefits offered then in any way comparable to whats offered now?

is every job in the military directly or even indirectly combat related?

are racial issues on college campuses and businesses currently more prevalent across the country than in the military by far?

make your own argument instead of haphazardly piggy backing off of a quote that barely applies if at all. different time to say the least :russell:

my mom keeps telling me to join the reserves
heard them checks a lil light tho
Depends on what you really want to do and how you want military experience to attain your future career goals.
You might not to want to make it career, or you could if you find that it fits your personality and you actually enjoy your job.
Or maybe you want to serve a bare minimum number of years and then get out, use the GI Bill money to go to college.
Maybe you want the work, technical or leadership experience because you have nothing on paper to prove your work experience.
With that said, you may not have all the answers, but you have an idea that serving in the military is going to be a stepping stone to something better.
When you say the checks are light in the Reserve, that's correct. You are only serving two weeks a year plus one weekend a month, that's a part-time job really, so you would need a full time job to support yourself.

If you find you don't like it but you have like two years to go, don't goof off. You want to be able to somehow use your time in the military to translate to something tangible in a resume.
"I was able to do this and that". This equates to prove you have good work habits or the ability to complete tasks assigned to you.
"I was a leader on this project or whatever". This equates to leadership abilities.
"While deployed/on base, such-and-such happened, and I did this to solve the problem". This equates to critical thinking and problem solving abilities.
"After boot camp, I went to so-and-so school and completed blah training and finished in the top of my class". This equates to being someone who is teachable and someone who applies them self to an academic environment. Because after your specialized training, you may find your job to be monotonous, simple and boring 99% of the time, but your job is critical when things hit the fan in that 1% of the time and you need to apply your training.

I did almost 8 years and got out last year. What you wanna know...

My experience differs from others though but I can tell you what I've learned.

First thing I've learned is to join the air force first. I was at a joint base working at a joint command. Air Force is the way to go unless you're an officer in whatever branch.

Navy is a close second if you don't want to be running around in the Middle East with guns. But even if you do, navy will accommodate you. A lot of whiteboys be on that shyt in the navy. They want to pretend like they're marines without actually joining the marines or trying to actually be a seal. Just so they can feel more manly or some shyt.

Most people don't give a fukk about that though.

If you join, just keep a sharp uniform and be on time and you'll avoid a lot of fukkboi bullshyt from higher ups.

Money is decent... Try to rank up quickly as possible (in DEP or in A School if allowed). Choose a rate that is actually open for promotions or you'll be fukked by being an E3 for like 3 years or some bullshyt.

Everything else is up to you. If your command allows juniors to go to school then definitely do that while you're in. At least take required classes if you have time. Stay out of trouble, stay in decent shape, and get out in 4 years with your school paid for, a lil change in your pocket, a stacked resume, and a lil disability money if you do what buddy said above and document all your shyt.

Find a rate that you think you'll enjoy (ask nikkas on here first they'll keep it 100.. Not the nikkas at MEPS).

Oh yeah, make sure you can atleast do 50 push-ups, 50 sit-ups, and run a 1.5 mile in 12 minutes

And barracks life is what you make it as well. Some places better than others..

Shore command/school Barracks in San Diego was :wow:

Ship barracks are:scusthov: but its kinda like college maybe... Maybe more like Job Corps barracks. Actual ship living is a mixture of :mjlol::stopitslime::scust::gladbron::why::dahell::birdman:

Try to get stationed overseas if possible, at least for the experience. Places like Japan, Hawaii, Italy, etc. it's a different and better experience unless you just want to be stationed close to home.

If you're in the states, definitely San Diego. Only place I can even remotely recommend to stay. Sometimes you get to choose.

My uncle was an electrician on the USS America, served in the Gulf War. My other uncle was an NCO in the Air Force. My grand dad was in the Army, served in WW2.

Coulda kept up the legacy but i couldnt bring myself to :francis: now im now just on this IT college grind, it's cool to think about what it coulda been like tho
