I don't get why we counting these billionaire owners pockets.

They been caking off the players since the nba inception paying the players pennies of what they are really worth. Most of these owners have no talent and has never done anything for the league outside of exploit some young dudes talents for their own gain and profit and then come out in cowboy boots and a do the right thing t shirt during the trophy presentation and hoist the trophy like they had anything significant to do with it.

If anything the owners deserve this slap in the face for putting us through that lock out.

Let them young nikkas move that dope. ...
The dumbest post in this thread. The nba is a business and about profit, the owners spend millions acquiring the team and paying the employees of the entire org, insurance, taxes, etc. Without the owners, the nba isnt any more than an and 1 promo and vice versa without the skills of the players its as popular as the wnba. Its a mutual partnership. So tell me what Lebron, KD, etc are worth on the open market if the cap wasnt there? Theyre making mlb money with the cap. As for the lockout which major sport in America hasnt had labor disputes? The NFL, NHL, MLB and NBA all had work stoppages but figured it out once they start losing fans/$. The mlb hasnt recovered from its lockout and is slowly dying even with a capless system. The only system that truly exploits athletes is the NCAA cartel and very few people have spoke up for the athletes at all until recently.

this is all it comes down to. let them eat. fukk i want the likes of Jim Ballmer and James Dolan to eat over players?
If the owners dont make money they cant pay the players and the nba folds. You cant spend money you dont have and stay open unless youre the govt.

This is quite wrong. Live sports are the biggest in demand product for TV viewers. That's why bidding wars for league rights are so crazy. TV viewers for live sports aren't going down at all. They are actually increasing. The digital content just makes them more valuable, not less. Because of social media every game is an event in itself. No league benefits more from social media than the NBA, and they definitely aren't going to collapse from an infusion of $24 billion, especially when it's damn near impossible for teams to fail.

Yeah someone has to foot the bill for the $24bn TV rights deal, and that is the networks. They are tied into a long-term contract where a major network will pay them yearly for the rights to broadcast their content. ABC is owned by the Walt Disney Corporation.. a multibillion dollar company. I think it's a safe bet that the money due to them is contractually guaranteed.

Your argument about the digital era doesn't hold up. The NBA's revenue is actually increasing.. in fact this year's NBA finals was the most viewed since 1998. This is why ABC felt it was a safe bet to shell out such a sum for the TV rights. Furthermore, live sports, unlike TV shows haven't felt the dwindling viewership from on-demand TV. This is because live sports is more about instant gratification.

I'm telling you brehs. There's going to be a chink in the armor at some point. Money is being tossed around right now that will end up being regretted.

Whether it's fans having less disposable income, advertisers unable to pay premiums, networks overestimating their finances or greed from the league itself - somewhere along the line a check will be written that can't be cashed.

I read the article earlier. How does this support your view? It's not like ESPN hasn't already earmarked money for their TV deals and will bounce a check. Future deals might be impacted but the article already states live sports are cream of the crop.
